Question 2023 2SS Order (1st Timer Questions)

Howdy all! I ordered what will be my very first Camaro and a childhood dream. My older brothers first car was a 89 Z28, I've wanted a Camaro since. I've also always wanted another manual car since my first car.

I ordered a 2023 2SS Manual Shadow Gray Metallic with some added goods. (No-1LE... Love the package but personally I will never touch a track and don't like how the suede wears.)

Anyhow. I have a few questions. My dealership low-key stresses me out.
(Austin TX)

1) Is there a way I can guarantee that they don't let anyone drive my Camaro?
-When I was in the shopping around stage, they offered me to drive
someone's order whom had not picked up yet.(I declined) also, while test
driving one of theirs to feel the difference in V8 and V6 the salesman
proceeded to change to the driver seat and long story short ended up
doing donuts and burnouts in the brand new car. I want none of this.

2) Am I supposed to receive my order number?
-My salesperson informed me today that we are now waiting for the
factory to start my build. (great news, I got an allocation within a month
of placing my order) But I do not have any order number or anything
and when I asked for it, I was told I could have the order number
whenever the car arives.... This seems kinda sus to me. I read the
Camaro6 ordering guide and everything before ordering.

Sorry for the lengthy post. Thanks in advance for anyone who took the time out of their day to respond/help

EDIT:
Update 1. I called the dealership and spoke with someone with a little more of a brain. I now have my order number. No ETA yet.
Going to double check their order details to what I told them to order to be safe.

Salesperson joyriding/abusing someone’s purchased vehicle…
Order numbers are generated immediately after the order is placed…

Change dealerships right away. Everything you just described is shady as hell.

I got my order number once my dealer submitted to Chevy. Still no allocation after 10 weeks, but I have the order number!

I'd be pretty suspicious if they won't give you the order number. Are you positive they got an allocation?

Get an workbench order number with everything written out on what you ordered and an order number. This needs to be signed off by you and dealer with the (OTDP) Out the door price at the time of ordering.

I tracked my car from order to delivery. Even got into the CSX/Trucking company sites at the RR yard. Waited 4hours on side of road for truck to arrive at dealership. Sales rep. took pictures even while I steaked out watching. 3 -4 miles on it at pickup.

Yeah, super shady. I intend on going up there tomorrow to talk to management.

See, this is exactly what I want to do. I will spend a PTO day if I have to haha.

Thanks for the advice. I plan to go to the dealer tomorrow.

this is what i was handed at my dealer. i had to agree the options set was correct and also set pricing (good in case your order stretches long and prices continue to rise). i also received the order number right on top of the page.

Congrats on stepping out and finally making your childhood dream come true

Contrary to the suggestions here to immediately jump (dealer)ship, I'd just go back, talk to management and let them know you're expecting a new car with 4 miles on the odo, if they try to shove an abused 30-40 mile car on you, then you'll know what's up and walk. I'd also confirm their allocation status, every BS dealer add-on or lack thereof, plus make sure they do absolutely nothing to the paint during PDI, not even a light wash.

Keep checking your order status in the relevant thread and good luck with your first Camaro

if you want fastest delivery, delete every option you don't really care about so it doesn't get held up by some constraint.

also watch DAILY for similar/same-ish vehicles in-transit being delivered anywhere convenient to you including out-of-state - if you see one of those consider to buy it as soon as it lands, if it matches your spec/options/price.

depending on where dealership is from rail-yard and/or an INTERMODAL HUB , there could be way more than 3 miles on the ODO - bonded driver has to drive it from there to the dealership else it may waits another 6 months to get scheduled onto a bigrig car-carrier.

Your inventory manager should call you immediately upon getting an allocation if he didn’t have one at time you ordered. I got my allocation in 1 week from ordering in May. Took delivery in October

Thanks again to everyone’s input and advice! I called the dealer and now have the order sheet and number.

I did agree to a price and everything before signing for an order but I do think I will talk yalls advice and go back to talk with the manager and state my factors I want on delivery.

Last update I have is from the automated GM messaging and the order has been placed but GM has not accepted at this moment.

I’m very excited but don’t mind a little extra wait so I can set aside more toward the down payment when it arrives haha
