Stroker Crank Oil Squirter Questions

Hello All,

Hope you're doing well today. I am going to pull the trigger soon on some bottom end stuff and had a couple of questions about crankshafts that have a stroke greater than the stock stroke. Some resources say that you, "have to massage the oil squirters" in order to get the crank to work correctly with an LT1 block. Does anyone know what this consists of, and does it take away the functionality of the oil squirters?

Best,
J

Yes you have to bend the squirter tubes themselves, notch the piston sleeves or plug them. I believe gpi is selling a simple delete now that will screw in and plug the individual squirters. It takes time because you have to have everything assembled to know how much you need to bend them. The purpose of the squirters is to cool the pistons from the back side.

jlaudio11 has it right - our experience was the same. Easiest by far is to delete them. We kept them and it took some time to adjust them as they sit between the block, piston, and rod...and depending on how bulky the rod is...

Some images in our build thread:

I think if Chevy went so far to engineer the squirters and flow/pressure of oil, then we should attempt to include them. Of course if one of ours breaks off and generates a massive internal oil leak...we may reconsider our position! Ha.

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated. I'll have to figure something out then, I was really hoping it was just a hot swap for the crank shafts if you want more stroke but guess not. I want to keep the oil squirter functionality so even though doing the delete is an option, I don't think its an option for me.

We manufacture a piston oil squirter that is designed to work with 4.000" stroke crankshafts.

That being said you still need to check clearance as some piston skirt designs will still require notching.

Hey Mike, thanks for the reply. I'm not looking to use a crank with a 4" stroke but looking to use the L8T crank with a 3.860" and was wondering if you think there still might be some clearance issues? Regardless, this seems like something I'm going to pick up anyway. I'm just trying to do as much research as I can so I can figure out the issues before hand to work with a shop on it.

Always love having Katech's opinion on things, y'all are always so resourceful!

I have an L8T crank in my LT1 block and definitely had to massage them and keep checking to fit. This was with a texas speed drop in piston and rod combo.

There is still clearancing required with the L8T crankshaft. Again, piston design will dictate if you can simply bend the squirter for clearance or if you'll need to mill the piston for clearance.
