Question Annoying Overhead LED Light

I like my interior lights at their dimmest when I'm driving at night and the overhead LED light between the map lights annoys me cuz in order to turn it off, you have to dim your lights until the radio display shuts off.

Other than using black tape or shoving a screw driver into that overhead, annoying LED light to break it, are there any other ideas about getting rid of it, covering it up, etc?

Excuse me if I misread your post. The overhead lights should not remain on when the car is moving unless you have turned them on. The switch is right next to each light. Hopefully I read your post correctly.

Sucks is a mild term, but the only safe description in a public forum.

A lot of folks don't realize how much the interior lighting can interfere with your vision at night.

To me, having the lights even at half their normal brightness is very invasive and distracting at night. At full strength it's like having headlights in my face while driving.

I have an 18 and it is not a issue. Be interested to see what other 19 & 20 owners have to say.

I have a 19 and never noticed it. I'm pretty sensitive to light as well.

It looks like a faint moon lit night kinda light.... maybe 10% of full light led. I wish there was a button to cut off radio screen after dark.. instead if looking through radio function everytime to black out screen..if you lower volume ir change radio station or song the screen lights up again

I have a 2020 and previously had a 2017 and they both seem like the same light. Its never been bright enough to bother me.

If you can get the console out to work on the unit, you can add some resistors in series with the LED to dim it. That does not look like a surface-mounted LED to me, so you should be able to pop (as in carefully desolder) one end and get some resistors in-line. This is bench top work. I think it would be very difficult to do this with the console still hanging in the car. Do some google or youtube searches for values to buy.

Why go to all that trouble. Get some duct tape and put on it.

The challenge of doing it right VS the reckless abandon of Hillbilly Engineering!
You could always try a thin coat of clear acrylic hobby paint. I have used Tamiya clear blue (X-23) over white LED's before with good result.
