[VR] 137rwhp and 162rwtq increase on a 2018 ZL1 from Basic Bolt-ons and E85!!!

Another 6th gen Camaro ZL1 came through our doors for a performance upgrade. This particular vehicle is owned by our customer Bill that resides from New Jersey. Our customer special ordered this 2018 A10 car from the dealer earlier this year and contacted VR for a possible power upgrade before the car was even delivered to him. His ultimate goal was to increase performance while staying strictly with basic bolt-ons and working within a modest budget. After several e-mails on possible combinations and recommendations, we landed on the following parts to help meet his goals of a fast yet reliable street car:
• Vengeance Racing cold air intake for 6th gen ZL1
• ATI harmonic balancer
• Lingenfelter 9.17” pulley
• Gates HD supercharger belt
• 180* thermostat
• Kooks 2” longtube headers with GREEN catted connection pipes
• Vengeance Racing flex fuel sensor kit

The vehicle was transported from New Jersey to our shop by our friends over at TPM Transport. Upon delivery we took the ZL1 straight to the Dyno for a baseline run. Bill’s ZL1 baselined at 549rwhp and 558rwtq. From there she was pulled into the shop and our technician got to work on the build.

This build was completed on the rack in just short of two days and went straight to the dyno after some drivability tuning was completed on the street for final WOT tuning. On 93 octane pump gas this combination made 648rwhp and 681rwtq, just over 100rwhp and 130rwtq over stock! We then drained the fuel and filled the tank with E85 at a 45% mix due to the limitations present with the factory fuel system. With the E45 fuel blend added, the ZL1 made a final power output of 686rwhp and 720rwtq. This was an outstanding gain on simple bolt ons and maintains near stock drivability and street manners. We can’t wait to ship Bill his car back so he can enjoy this truly transformed daily driver.

Great stuff. How much boost were you running in the final setup?

The fuel system limitations really hold back the zl1 and especially the SS. Hopefully more solutions become available and at a reasonable price

I would probably be FI by now but it’s hardly worth it over a stout heads cam setup unless I do a complete pricey fuel system upgrade. The cost is insane to make 600+ on E85 reliably. As we can see here a full lt4 system can’t even support 700 rwhp on E85 :(

What does a setup like that look like hp/tq wise on back to back to back runs?

would like to see the dyno chart with the gains, I'm sure the midrange torque is crazy, and of course, nothing is going to touch it on the lowend..

I 100% agree. We do a LOT of N/A SS builds for this reason, or meth injection systems on the ZL1 cars wanting to run full E85. However you do get a good chunk of the benefits from ethanol fuel at the 40% mark.

We'll post graphs ASAP. We just got a new DynoJet installed and WinPep 8 software has been having issues playing nicely with our server to upload these.
