Copper free brake option 2022
I am going to be ordering a 22 ZL1 and was wondering if anyone knows if the copper free option is supposed to be less dust than the std pads

Less dust? I'll say no. The copper in the pads was added to help dissipate the heat.

I hear the 'copper free' pads don't stop as well as the regular pads.

This option is mandatory for California & Washington and was only added to be able to sell the ZL1/ZLE there again..

Exactly the opposite. If you order the 'copper-free' you are getting the BW5 brakes. In multiple articles, it's mentioned Cadillac tested 60 compounds to get a pad that could handle ~800 laps on track. It's a Brembo pad...not a Ferodo. I haven't seen anyone post that has that option yet. Hope they post pics of the caliper/rotor. https://www.brembo.com/en/company/ne...ke-with-brembo

Question : To make a Camaro compliant with the Copper Free legislation, is it just a matter of changing the brake pads? In order to maintain the same braking performance, the brake components have to grow in size and therefore, brake pads compliant with copper free legislation will not fit on Camaro models with traditional copper-containing linings. Question : Is it possible to make a vehicle produced with copper-containing linings compliant with the copper free regulation? To upgrade a Camaro model previously produced with copper-containing linings to be compliant with copper free legislation, it will be necessary to replace, pads, rotors, calipers, brake shields and in most cases, a new EBCM calibration will also be required. For Camaro models that offer components that are compliant to the new copper free legislation, the cost to upgrade the brake system will range between $2,000 - $7,000, depending on model. Geoff |

Not what has been reported by others... There was an earlier thread on this where someone went digging and discovered it's the same brake as the BW5. https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showp...81&postcount=7 To be clear...the PDF you posted even says, it's not the standard brake with a different pad. It's a larger rotor/caliper and pad.

RPO "BCD" is for the brake pads. For the Camaro, when you order "BCD" you automatically have to get/have "J6H".
"J6H" is the 390/365 (ZL1/1LE) rotor and caliper system. From a dealer service bulletin on 2022MY Camaro and copper-free brakes: Quote:

The description of "BCD" from the order official order guide: Quote:
>"2" is directed at 2SS as a note to "available". >"3" is directed at ZL1 as a note to "available". https://www.gmfleetorderguide.com/NA...page=6&butID=3 Short and skinny: on a 2022MY Camaro, if you check the "BCD" option on an SS or ZL1, you will get the 390mm/365mm system with copper-free pads. |

*I think this is why the LT 1LE package/heavy-duty package option of LT's are listed to not be able to be compliant - GM likely needed a re-calibration and the business case (sales volume) didn't make sense. That or there is a capability issue with just swapping to the copper-free pads and track performance. |
