And this is why I HATE putting any car of mine, beater or not, in someone else’s hands.

I noticed on some the repairs I’ve had (in the past) include sloppy disorganized work areas....Nuts, bolts, parts not labeled / categorized / w torque settings, or set aside in zip lock bags.

Seriously, a-little upfront time and effort matching parts to the repair manual page / nomenclature, makes life easy for all involved, so there’s no confusion putting Humpty Dumpty back together again. Talking about an an embarrassment, 8 readily visible connectors missing.

It’s a wonder that some of these cars run once “reassembled”

Hopefully that’s all that was missed. Good luck.

Um… what caliber is the ZL1? I know it feels relatively fast but I didn't realize it was actually a bullet!

When my pump failed, the dealer had to wait on a backordef for the bolts. They said they were one-time-use-only. Sounds like this dealer said “shrug, bolts? We dont need no friggin bolts. Hey, Vinny, slap it together and get it outta here”

Man I am really bummed out reading all of this! I got rid of my C7 because of all the issues GM refused to address. I always wanted a ZL1 since they released it. I found the perfect deal sitting at a local lot. 2018 with only 5k miles, build the date 6/17. Not too sure about it now. The problem is that I mod everything and had big plans for adding power to this one. After a tune my warranty would be gone. What a nightmare it would be having this happen without warranty.

Easy, change the oil pump when you open the engine for your mods..

After owning a ZL1 for 72 hours now and reading on this forum, I really wish I would have kept my 2010 SS. I had always thought the 6th gen ZL1 was a solid platform. Now I feel like I just bought a time bomb. I guess that's the nature of joining a forum after the fact.

its a solid car. The failure rate is so damn low. Enjoy your car. Seriously.

Agreed. At least a $120 pump can be replaced good as new. If you see the pressure warning, pull over and get it towed, and hopefully under warranty (missing frame bolts not withstanding). If that is all that is mechanically risky with my car, I'll sleep well.

Not even close to, say any car with an A8 transmission. That's an un-fixable situation, apparently, and every one is at risk.

How hard of a job is it to replace this pump out of warranty, doing it yourself in the garage?

In fact no other car in the world has an issue, if you go into a service bay at a chevy dealer the only cars there broken are ZL1 Camaros.

Cars are all going to have issues. It's fact. Go to the F150 forums and read those. The number one selling truck for decades and its the most hated by everyone on those. Hell going into 2020 with the same door latch will not work in freezing temps TSB. The Camaro ZL1 has the same oil pump as the SS. MyZL1 is in the range of these and I just drive it. If it blows up then so be it. It will get fixed.

Lets pretend 100 people have bad oil pumps. Out of 50 thousand in just 2018? Thats not even 1%. So what is an acceptable failure rate?

We all tend to get a bit excited when it is us that has the problem. We all tend to come here to vent and let out our frustrations. We come here because our wife is like its just a car they will fix it won't they. Just like everything in the world negative president travels at the speed of light while positive experience rarely is heard of.
