Passenger seat removal for drag racing

Could use some feedback regarding the removal of the rf seat for drag racing. Are you getting air bag warning lights, or any restraint system lights? can they be cleared once the seat is back in ?

SRS light will come on and it can only be reset at the dealer afterwards. Not really worth the hassle for half a tenth in the 1/4.

Does not seem worth the hassle unless you are racing for $$$$.

are you 100% on the part that the light can only be turned off by a dealer? I've heard about that with other brands but I never had that happen with a GM product.

I'm sure with the right update a snap on scanner or equivalent could turn the light off but a complete key cycle with an airbag unplugged usually sets a hard code.

I also wondered that. The over engineered German cars definitely have those hang ups, but is GM so fussy??? or can you just reinstall the seat with the battery disconnected and the code will go away.

No, I have not worked on every make and model car known to man in every single scenario. But in the 20 years of working on cars at dealers and body shops, most every modern car has to be reset at the dealer once and airbag has been unplugged and key cycled. I was offering my advice based on what I know personally. If that answer isn't good enough, go unplug your airbag and report on how to get the light off for us.

All I asked if it's something you know for a fact or something you assumed. Obviously it is something you assumed and are very sensitive about. Thank you for your time and information.

I’ve taken mine in and out a few times. Light just goes out on its own

Being in collision repair, you are correct about air bag codes or SRS codes, dealers always had to do the reset for the body shops once the car was repaired. Its all about the fact regarding safety and airbag or the restraint systems are top priority and cannot screw around with them.
