Square Setup...

So for my 2ss I've been thinking of going with a square set up... my questions are;

~Why didnt GM go for a square set up in the first place like the 5th gen Z28?

~ what are the disadvantages in terms of weight on the front wheels going to a 275 vs 245?

~ if i buy 2 rear wheel / tire packages and put them on my front wheels, would there be any offset / fitment issues ?? Would the studs on the hubs and lug nuts hold the wheel in place or will a spacer be needed?

~Would the TPMS lights come on once you go from 245---> 275?

1. Different chassis. Different car. This was asked in the “ask Al” section. Some discussion there about it, check it out.
2.Depends....A non runflat will be lighter. An aftermarket wheel will be lighter. If you buy a bigger run flat and a cheap cast wheel it will be heavier....
3. You would need a 15mm spacer....and longer studs.
4. No issues going wider up front as longer as diameters of front and rear are similar.

Edit. And TPMS is the tire pressure monitor system. I assume you meant to say traction control, etc.

Oh i was referring to replacing the front wheels with the stock rims tires from the rear on the 6th gens..
Just buy a new set of rear wheels/tires and put them on the front ones..

My main goal / reason for wanting do it was cause i wanted to be able to do front--> back tire rotation... thats all

But after seeing that the rim sizes were different on the 5th gen z/28 ... i see that it would be pointless.. I had thought that since the TIRES were the same all the way around on the z/28 that the wheels sizes were the same as well, but according to chevy they're not.

http://media.chevrolet.com/media/us/...2015.tab1.html

And on the 6th gens, since the SS1LE uses 285s out FRONT and the SS uses 275s in the back... i thought that there would be no issues in terms of rubbing bringing the rear wheel/ tires to the front ones... But they do have a longer wheel WIDTH in the back than the fronts.. so not worth doing it, because i dont want to use spacers.. so my wishes of being able to do front to back tire rotations every 7,000 kms or so wont work..

I just thought because the Z/28 had the same TIRE width all the way around that the wheel sizes were the same all the way around as well.. but that's not the case ...

As for the TPMS and tcs... I've seen people with 6 gens that upgraded tires / wheels, and the tpms light warnings came on...
for instance if the actual tire pressure on the car was 35 psi via a hand gauge, while the in dash monitor would read mid 20s.. whereas stock rims/ tire package reads the proper tire pressure..

And also yes to seeing the tcs lights / warning come on as well...

For the z/28

Wheels/Tires

Wheel size and type:
19 x 11-inch aluminum (front)
19 x 11.5-inch aluminum (rear)
Tires:
P305/30/ZR19 summer (front) – Pirelli PZero Trofeo R
P305/30/ZR19 summer (rear) – Pirelli Pzero Trofeo R

They would if they didn't interfere with the damper first.

For a 9.5" wide wheel up front you would need a 15 mm spacer for GM wheels or spec a wheel +25 ET or less.
