Wait...so the speakers in the doors (even on my 1SS) are bass only???

This is news to me...and frankly hard to believe. So which speakers are carrying mids? Something in the dash, and the ones in the rear side walls?

so, i agree with you, I used to do custom systems and in the end you cant beat a real sub with dedicated amps and separates.

BUT.. i have to admit what you can get in a stock system these days is so far and beyond what was available back then....and for 99 percent its way more than they ever need...
so the factory is never going to accommodate the couple of us who want more.....

That being said ( I know I'm going to get killed on this) this system is not that bad...
it has its moments and in the end its good enough not to warrant spending the money and effort and head ache to improve it..

You lost all credibility with that statement. No audiophile would ever say that about the OEM stereo system in the sixth gen Camaro

I agree with this. I am disappointed with the cut-short high end and lack of solid bass of the Bose system, but after learning (on this forum) how involved and how costly it is to do even a minor upgrade, I've decided to enjoy the Bose for what its worth.
For what they up-charge for the Bose, I think they could have at least included a couple of $5 tweeters to help the high end not sound so dull.
I do wish they gave us more tone control than the 3-band EQ. Think about it; the system is digital till the signal gets to the amp; how hard would it have been to program some more comprehensive audio controls to play with?

I think its a digital amp (I could be wrong on that)
definitely wished there was more than the three band, but my understanding is that there are multiple active eq's in the system... (not that it gives you any adjustability but it might make it more difficult to give you more control)

(also I don't have a convertible )

Lol yeah, that was my bad. As far as OEM System’s go, it’s not the worst system ever, but it’s not good.

As mentioned , there are complex system EQ’asbuilt in, from speed sensing changes in coupes and convertibles to complete EQ changes in the convertible with the top down.

It will take a minimum of a few thousand to put together a decent system in this car because it all starts with the M650-GM device which is $850.

I spent $7k on my audio overhaul, and I know it’s one of the best sounding 6th gens out, and I’m still going to upgrade the speakers once more to fully optimize the system.

I haven't gotten around to doing my system yet but I fully intend on doing a complete overhaul with the M650-GM converter.

Luckily I still have my original amps which run and sound great from 20 years ago. A Pioneer and an Alpine. Old school beefy analog transistor outputs. None of this digital stuff lol.

lol, I can't knock the old school stuff. If it still works, do it. Technology has definitely changed a lot since then, but we had great sounding systyems 20 year ago when we were teenagers, same equipment can still sound good with the correct supporting parts!

Like fastball, at one point I was gung-ho about getting right into this. But the Bose has grown on me in a "yeah, I can live with this for a while" kind of way.
I took my $2000 and threw it at a spare set of wheels, all season tires, and a rack to mount them on my garage wall. Still ruminating the audio upgrade...

It hasn’t so much grown on me as much as I just don’t have two or three days to go without my car while it’s in my garage with the entire interior and trunk gutted to properly install a stereo system.

The factory system sucks.

After spending ungodly amount of time on my last car (wrx) tuning it and changing speakers and locations, I was happy that the Bose wasn't as bad as I assumed.
Granted it's not amazing but it's definitely livable for me. We do have to talk apples to apples though. Satellite radio always sounds like ass! Clean good music from either my dac or hard drive sound pretty good for a "stock" stereo.

Side note I did pull my stereo screen down to place some felt tape to quiet a rattle I saw made by Alpine on the back of it. So it must be an Alpine stereo that Bose builds and tunes the amp/speakers or Bose contracts Alpine to do it all.

Alpine does the head unit, and Bose does the amplifier and speakers. There is no joint development. They are both suppliers to GM.
