just speakers upgrade 2ss

are there replacement speakers for the bose system..

i mean like stock sizes and including bass only 6x9s that would be direct replacements

i know this is not the best stereo but in a lot of ways its not that bad...
i don't want to go amps and subs i just want to improve on the speakers and not mess with crossover points and stuff

From what I've read in this forum, unless you're willing to add amp(s) and a processor, etc....swapping speakers isn't likely to net you the sound improvement you'd expect.

There are adapters to make after market speakers fit in the factory locations. There are no direct drop in speakers. I would just go to your local audio shop and listen to a few good speakers and decide what to buy off that.

The front doors have 6x9 speakers but there are adapters to put 6.5" speakers in there as well. There are then 2 tweaters in the dash, 2 4" speakers in the rear side walls (can fit 6.5" speakers with adapters), and finally on some models with certain sound options you will have 2 6x9's in the rear deck. Your audio shop will have all of this information for you as well.

I would definitely make sure you listen to some speakers before you buys as it is very subjective as to what sounds good to you.

i don't think that will work in this case...
as rear deck speakers are not full range and i think door speakers as well...

i didn't see any replacements for the setup in the car. i figured some one here would have done this already...

I don't think the speakers are the limiting factor in the Bose setup. The rear speakers seem to be tuned as rear-fill only. Start with the front three speakers and the doors if you want to try only a speaker swap.
Should you decide to tackle the rear deck 6x9's, do some reading here to make sure whatever you buy will fit. Getting the stock size in and out is already tight, and some aftermarket 6x9's have deep magnets.

Aren't the doors limited to bass frequencies only? A swap to a full range speaker for those is any benefit if the signal id bandwidth limited?

The 6x9 in the doors and rear deck...see 20-300hz....the dash speakers and rear side panel see 300-16,000hz

How did you measure this?
I played test tones of varying frequency through the Bose system and this is what I got, 40-200 Hz:

my mistake...low end should be 40....upper end ranges anywhere from 200-300...either way...the point should be that the 6x9 should be considered bass only....nothing mid/full range...

I hate, I mean HATE, modern factory premium sound systems like our Bose. I'm old school, cut my teeth doing car fi installs in the 90s, where you had no DSPs and you could do a full custom system without breaking the bank or installing a ton of signal processors to reverse all the factory signal processing.

Not only are the rear deck speakers crossed over for bass only, the factory DSP rolls the bass off as you turn the volume louder to protect the speakers.

The only way to get rid of that, and I hate it and I'm saving up for a big system install, is to use any of the signal summing processors out there that take all channels, mix them, and then give you full bandwidth output to all channels without roll off. Then you can cross over the channels as you prefer.

I wish the Bose system was optional separately on the 2SS. Just give me the base 6 speaker system and let me upgrade to my own without dealing with factory DSP nannies. I hate it.
