Unhappy 2017 2SS Android Auto Google Map Lost not working

I've search this forum and have also tried to get help from Google Android Auto Help Forum and did not come across the phenomena that I am experiencing.

I picked up my 2017 2SS last week. Install the latest Android Auto on my LG6. Connected using USB. Android auto seems to be projecting onto the 8" screen ok. Application is working fine. But here is the problem...

I'm driving from my home to the Chevrolet dealership so using voice command I got Google Map to locate the dealership. The route is planned and displayed as expected. The I started the Navigation and Google Map fails and is lost. Instead of starting from my current location, which is my home, it thinks that it is at the Chevrolet dealership. The voice guidance tells me to turn left at a street near the dealership, another left,... and I would arrive at the dealership in 3 min and 0 miles. My home is 18 miles from the dealership.

I tried a few things, disconnecting, reconnecting,... The closest I got was while enroute, somehow, Google map re-establishes true current location and the guidance follows as expected. But a few minutes into this, Google Maps gets lost again and it places the current location to some odd place several miles away.

SO... while hard connected on USB to MyLink Android Auto, Google Maps is lost, flakely, unpredictable.

While not connected and running Android Auto only on the phone, Google Maps recovers and is working as expected. Current location is updated. Guidance is on track to lead me to my intended destination.

I hope that someone has experienced this phenomena and have solved this weird behavior. Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Joe

Sounds like the GPS antennae in the car is acting up. When using AA, it will use the car's GPS instead of the phones for a better fix. You don't have NAV do you?

Do non-Nav vehicles even have a GPS Antenna?

Yep, that's how OnStar gets your location and can send you turn by turn directions.

Great information. I'm on the trial OnStar service now so I will try some testing confirm if the car's GPS is failing. Thanks.

If it affects OnStar then definitely the GPS. Could also be something in the HMI not passing the location to the phone too. Definitely get it to the dealer.

Did some additional research and trials. I don't have a final conclusion but I can describe some additional insight. My LG5 has something to do with the behavior, Android Auto and MyLink are both involved as well. As of now, this is what I am able to determine.

1. GPS Navigation using just the phone in Google Maps and Android auto without the MyLink works as expected.
2. Once I connect the LG5 to MyLink, GPS lock is flaky, navigation is flaky, and not reliable.
3. Based on research from other forums, I made some changes to the setting in the LG5- adjusted battery optimization, set Location to GPS only. In addition to that, I started the Android Auto app and plotted the destination prior to connecting to MyLink. Under this scenario, AA in MyLink work the best with less drop outs and behaving less flaky.

I am hoping that someone has experienced something like this and can isolate the causes.

BTW
1. GPS using OnStar work fine.
2. Still not lear which GPS antenna is being used in AA mode Car vs Phone

So take a look at this. It seems AA uses multiple sources for location depending on the accuracy of each.

I think you need to do a few more tests to isolate it. I suggest:

Try another phone with myLink using the same cable you use now.

Try another cable with your phone.

Try another AA compatible car with your phone.

Something is out of whack. I'm leaning towards the HMI in the car but we need another phone and different cable to have the same issue to prove that.

Final conclusion for my issue:

1. Root cause is still inconclusive.
2. Mylink, AA, GPS, Navi all working as expected.
3. The most significant impact was to remove all unnecessary apps from my LG5.
4. My guess is that the phone resources were consumed. Removing the unnecessary apps freed up memory and avoided any conflicts.

I hope this helps.
