Basically it was the LS3, not the LT1.

If the cam, intake, exhaust manifold, etc, are different, then it's not the same engine. Sure they share as many components as possible, but the torque curves are different so there must be enough differences in hardware to cause that.

So the LS1 that came in the 1998 camaro/firebird is not the same LS1 that came in the 2002 camaro/firebird?

I stand corrected. I figured since the ss sedan and 5th gen shared so many things that they shared the fact that the automatics came with DOD. Apparently, the L99 was only for camaros.

Good point. Since 01+ got many of the upgrades LS6 components. Intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, fuel injectors, heck some 02’s even ended up with LS6 blocks. Plus they dropped in a smaller cam and switched to 241 heads. Lots of changes. Different motor, yet the same. The LS6 clutch & hydraulics were a bonus

Yep, definitely a peculiar choice by GM

Interesting thread and thank you to the people who know what they’re talking about. On the other hand it’s amazing how much people think they know and they’re completely wrong.

The Chevy SS is pretty much the same car as the 2009.5 Pontiac G8 GXP. Both use the LS3 and even the A6 transmission.

That is strange. I stand corrected. Gotta get the 1500 in order to have a 6.2 option.
