Interesting. So will this be the new recommended oil for our cars for street and track once its released to everyone later this year?

That's a different oil then the ESP 0w-40 meant for the LT1 and LT4. Check the attached PDF.

GM is a big customer and they want there own version of the same color of paint that Porsche has been using for years. The differences aren't worth discussing.

Read the data sheets. In some details I'll take the Porsche spec, other the GM spec. Unless you are a Mobil1,GM or Porsche engineer they are the same. An engine won't know the difference.

Well so much for data driven thinking.

At this moment you can walk through my shop and enjoy two Z06Vettes, a Z/28, a Norman Marcus Camaro, a 1976 BMW 2002, a 1957 Lotus Eleven, a 2016 Lotus 3 Eleven, a BRZ and a Porsche. All cars from or VIR client base. All are great cars for a road course, though I do have a special place in my heart for Camaros and Vettes. Each has desirable attributes. Each has an engineering feature or two or three I wish came in one car.

Just my opinion.

So many arguments over oils it's frankly stupid. Run the standard recomended oil and you're good because no matter what you do on the street you're nowhere near the abuse at the track. Just change it more frequently. If you drive hard all the time change the oil and filter every 3k miles and your engine will last well beyond 100k miles no matter how hard you drive. Frequent changes are far more important than type of oil.

Just run an oil that meets the specs in the manual. Valvoline MST 5W40 or Motul X-Clean 5W40. Both of which are certified and meet the GM(Dexos 2) and Porche(A40) specs.

Keep in mind to pay attention to the wording though too.

"Oil Co. recommends X product for Y spec" is not the same as "X product meets Manufacturer Y spec"

Just because an oil company recommends their product for certain specs does not mean it meets those specs. Prolific issue in transmission fluids.
