TCM tune question

I would appreciate some input from those of you familiar with stock TCM tune on an A10 SS. So some time back, I had just an engine tune (mostly just for E85) done by a reputable tuner. Not long ago, I sent the TCM off to HPT to be unlocked and I just now purchased the credits for tuning and read the stock file.

What I noticed as I looked at the TM table, under TCC Limit Tq Reduction, it says disabled and max torque 738 lb ft. To the untrained eye, this looks like TM is not active. Am i just misreading it?

For the record I will be having Brett do the tuning, this is just curiosity on my part.

If you want to check whether transmission torque management has been disabled, on the same page where you found that TCC limit, look at the right side of the page. Under Torque Reduction you will see Default, Switch A, Switch B, TUTD Auto, TUTD, 4WD Low, Quickshift, Upshift, CT Downshift, Power Downshift, Garage Shift. This is where TM can be enabled/disabled. Your tuner might do some other things to effect how much TM is applied, but that is where the master enable/disable is for the trans TM.

Thank you for responding. So it sounds like what I'm seeing on my screen is a bit different than what you described. Once I click on the TM page, this is what I see. There isn't anything on the right side of the page. What you see is exactly what was read from the unlocked but untuned TCM.

Perhaps your HP Tuners is too old, or it doesn't yet support the same settings for 2019+ A10 cars...?

I have the exact same message when I check for updates. Vs. 4.4.4 and no update found. So it looks like you have an A8, maybe there aren't as many adjustable parameters on an A10?(I think thats basically what you were saying)

I would download the latest Beta as it will likely have more tables unlocked. That being said, the A10 doesn't have as many tables unlocked in HPt as the A8.

I seem to recall reading that very thing, that the amount of tables was less for the A10. I will look into the Beta version. Thanks!!

And this was really more of an exercise of curiosity. Again, I'm going to have Brett tune it but I was just nosing around and my curiosity was peaked when I saw "disabled".

A10 doesn’t have many tables unlocked. Really all you can do is change shift points and tc lockup. All the shift quality tuning is on the engine side.

I think I saw that starting in either '19 or '20 (I know for sure it's at least the '20s) A10s get a new Bosch controller. That's not supported by HPTuners yet. I know you posted about a '19, but I know this new unsupported controller is out there, as I can't unlock mine.

I can tell you that changing the Virtual Torque Tables and such DO change the behavior of the transmission. I haven't gotten much change (as I'm doing it slowly and incrementally) but I am experiencing, and seeing (as King pointed out earlier) that some characteristics are changing. If I recall, pressure is one of the biggest changes, as the higher in torque the tables are adjusted, the firmer the shifts (and there is a point of diminishing returns). DO NOT MAX THOSE TABLES OUT. I am not suggesting that in any way.

Sorry if that's more than you asked. I'm still trying to learn and figure some of this stuff out. I also understand Pray's-tuning is AWESOME on the A10 (and much more, I'm sure). He posted some time slips of STOCK A10s, on street tires if I recall, easily running lower 11s, and with his tranny-only tune, dropping right into the 10s easily. That might be something to consider, too.

All 2020+ Camaro's with the A10 get the T93 TCM that currently can not be unlocked. That being said yes there are things you can do on the ECU side that effects how the transmission shifts. Virtual torque is one and minimum spark is another. If you raise the minimum spark table, then the ECU will pull less timing on the shift. You still can not touch shift points or converter tables. So heads/cam NA or Centri/turbo cars will really suffer the most. About the only power adder that would perform fairly optimal on a rather stock trans tune is a PD supercharger. They work well with stock converters and shift points for the most part.

Thank you for jumping in! Yes, mine is a 2019 and has been unlocked. I actually dont plan on playing with any of the tables. I'm just gonna let Brett do his thing with it. There is just way too much that I need to know to make reliable/effective changes and I simply dont have the time in my life now to learn those things. I was just nosing around and looking at various tables and it just peaked my curiosity.
