Well, I don't fit in a C8 so...

I just ordered a ZL1 convertible. I had intended on ordering a new Vette for my birthday, but guess what? GM doesn't build the C8 for a guy who is 6'2"! Admittedly, I AM taller in the torso than the average 6'2" dude (I am equal to someone 6'4" when seated) but still, I was surprised how short it was. Seriously, it came up at least an inch short as I was painfully rammed into the ceiling. The C7 had the same issue.

Well, at least this way I get a supercharger AND a stick! Glad to be joining the club.

Congratulations and to the "club" as well as the forums.

I guess you wouldn't have that much extra headroom in a Camaro coupe, so choosing a convertible makes sense from that point of view. I'm 6' 2" and have more than enough, but an extra 2 inches would definitely cut into it.

If you want to drive it in those brutal Minnesota winters, you'll want different tires than the stock Goodyears.

Oh, and before I forget:

Seat position? I find in low cars people tend to jack the seats up high or try and put them vertical when they are designed to be more set-back and lower, to accommodate the difference sizes. People get the idea they have to see the hood or some specific thing, which tends to drive this. The C8 is inherently more like an F-16 (set-back) compared to a Camaro, which is more upright...more being the key word, it's still not as upright as many other cars with higher rooflines.

I had more headroom in our C8 than I did in my ZL1.

We'll show you how to modify it.

It doesn't really, you should have no issue fitting in one. I'm guessing the OP didn't adjust the seat like he should have. The C8 is roomier insider than the ZL1.

Interesting to hear that. But no matter where I moved the seats in the C8 I was rubbing on the ceiling. I must be some sort of freak. I also just touched the ceiling on my 2014 Yukon with the seat all the way down.

Some have suggested the coupe with the glass targa gains an inch or two over the convertible I tried. But there aren’t any Corvettes in the area to try out at the moment.

Also not well known on the C8 is that the transparent roof panel gains about 2" of headroom compared to the body colored roof panel because it doesn't have any of the padding and cloth on the underside of the panel. When I say that the seat can be adjusted for taller people, the seat can be reclined backwards some to allow more headroom, the ZL1 can't do that. The ZL1 seats have almost no recline because they run right into the rear seats.

As I said above, at 6' 2" I have no problems with the seat, and in fact a few inches of space is left behind me even when pushing the seat back to a position no longer usable for driving. For example, with the auto exit position recall the seat is moved up and back significantly when I open the door to get out, and it still doesn't bump into the rear seat.

The limited recline is an annoying, yet fixable problem on the pre-2019 Camaro, there are several threads here about drilling out the stop that prevents maximum "flattening".

However, I don't think it's fair to say that increasing the recline angle on the C8 counts as adding headroom—at this rate, every car would have feet of headroom if you recline the seats far enough... IMO the seatback angle has to be in a position for proper visibility and pedal/steering wheel reach, not max headroom.

(Yes, I know my car isn't a ZL1, but interior and seat dimensions are practically the same on all Gen 6 Camaros.)

Its a fact that the official specs for the C8 headroom is 37.9", compared to 36.6" in the ZL1. Like I said, you gain roughly 2" more with the transparent roof panel compared to the standard body colored roof panel which would put the headroom at 39.5-40". I owned a C8 for a year along with my current ZL1 so I know how these cars fit. I'm 6' tall with a longer torso the average, but I had no issues at all with the C8 headroom, even without reclining the seat severely. I was simply stating that you can recline the seat just slightly, and gain an extra 1-2" rather easily without it affecting your driving your view or comfort in any vehicle really. I don't know many people that sit with the seat straight up at a 90 degree angle.
