F1 Guy's Reaction to My 1LE :pout:
My son manages a German company supplying engine parts to Formula 1, MotoGP and others, which causes him to pretty damn snobby when evaluating all other cars including mine. He says there's nothing new or innovative about the ZL1 or LT4, and that V8 engines and superchargers have been around for over 100 years.
However, he readily concedes that when it comes to $/HP our cars are hard to beat (I haven't figured out how to calculate $/hp for an F1 engine). Not surprisingly, he jumped into my car and spent an hour burning up a road course.

I tend to agree with your son's opinion. I don't find there to be anything overly innovative with these cars, but that is also not what the Camaro is about. $/hp ratio... the Camaro competes with the best of them IMO.

If the Germans idea of innovative is brittle plastic engine parts. I'll take the out of date American muscle every time.

LOL, no, their engine parts are comprised of exotic alloys such as Titanium Aluminide, super light, super strong, super expensive

F1 engines cost $10.5 mil (just the engine). Not really in the same class as a Camaro

LT1 Engine alone not mentioning chasis: Variable valve timing (up to 60 degrees), valve angle + smaller combustion chambers, piston oil squirters, wide block for added crank/block strength, aluminum block. 455 HP/Torque will last 300k miles easy. I get it GM is not the first, I mean honda changed the engine game with variable valve timing and everyone shits on them. Personally I think the push rod design with the innovations above make this more appealing and special. |

I agree with gtfoxy and jamala00! In my opinion there is no comparison in a street car vs the F1 race cars. Sounds like he has become a snob and should be comparing other race cars to the F1s not street/production cars like our ZL1s. Just smile when he starts talking bad about your ZLE and drive on with a grin on your face.

I’d be curious the hear your son tell what is particularly innovative in an M4 ( or any car he believes to be “innovative” ) as a comparison. When it comes down to it the list would be short and would likely be interior features or lighting which is just more money.
