A10 Fluid/Filter change with part #s DIY

I ordered the filter, pan gasket, & fluid from a GM online source and decided to tackle the procedure today.

This procedure is shrouded by doubt & obscurity because this transmission is fairly new. I couldn't find a decent DIY so hopefully this will help some of you guys.

You will need 7qts of tranny fluid (GM only) as this A10 requires a special ULV (ultra-low viscosity) fluid. Don't get fancy with any other fluids. GM part #19352619. No drain plug on this pan so be prepared for a little mess. You can remove the little 10mm plug on the driver's front which may drain a quart or so. Proceed to removing the transmission pan bolts (10mm) in a logical way to minimize mess. Be prepared for 6-7 quarts of fluid to drain or spill.

OK...pan is now removed and the filter is retained by two 8mm bolts. The filter will easily come off and be ready for another small rush of fluid. The new filter comes with a new seal which can be installed with finger pressure.

Filter # 24291343
Pan gasket # 24269333 or 24290546 (updated part #)

Lube the inside of the new filter seal with a little dab of fresh tranny fluid. Press new seal in place and reinstall the new filter and the two 8mm bolts.

Clean the transmission pan with a little brake clean and remove the two round magnets and clean them too. Replace the gasket (not entirely necessary) and reinstall the pan & 10mm bolts.

OK...here comes the fun part which is adding fluid. No dipstick, no rubber plug to access where the dipstick would be...what to do? You have to add fluid through the little 10mm plug via a pump & small orifice tip. There is a GM tool/fixture for this to thread into the hole. Sorry, this guy isn't buying a special tool. I rigged a pool float inflator to a rubber tube. A simple hand pump from Advance Auto and all is well. The fluid is really thin so it is quite easy to pump. 7 quarts later and the procedure is done.

OK...how to check the fluid to ensure it is correct? There is a procedure to get the fluid to a specific temp and open the plug until fluid stops dripping. I had done this fluid check already so I precisely measured what was drained and replaced. 7 quarts was my number.

Thanks for posting. How did the old fluid look/smell? How many track days/miles on it?

Fluid like this isn't as stinky as typical ATF so it wasn't too bad. Fluid color can be seen in the pics and was not cherry red. Old fluid was slightly orange compared to the new fluid. The magnets had some clutch material on them which is normal for the use this ZL1 has seen. My car only has 6000 miles. The only easy miles were the first 1500. So, on track at VIR make up at least 3500 miles. I probably should have changed the fluid sooner. The GM Track sheet recommendation is after 15 hours of track usage. I was in that ballpark so it was needed. The car has probably 20 dragstrip runs on it also. I will post the link for the fluid check procedure on this thread. Fast forward to the A10 part.

Should have ordered the new A10 trans pan for the 1LE if you were going to tear yours apart. Would have been good to put it on...

I briefly searched and could not find a p/n for the ZLE A10 pan.
