This sounds like the easiest way to disable it unless there is a setting to turn it off completely (which I doubt).
Anyone know how this works? I'm guessing it's a camera/radar based system. Nice if just covering the camera is enough to disable it.

Apparently that's possible in some vehicles but not others. The 2019 Camaro Owner Manual does not identify which cars might have an 'OFF' setting.

Quote:
Selecting the Alert Timing
The Collision Alert control is on the
steering wheel. Press [car collision icon] to set the
FCA timing to Far, Medium, Near,
or on some vehicles, Off.
Those settings all do appear to be permanent until changed again.

Don't assume that this system can get every situation right.

I have a feeling that Jersey median barriers close to the pavement on a tight highway ramp could cause it to throw a false positive indication just as you're turning onto the ramp. Or gaps in such barriers at intersections, or construction-zone barrels close to your lane where your lane ultimately curves away from them. That's just off the top of my head.

Don't be so willing to hand off responsibility that properly belongs with the driver.
