I have a GMPP Axle Back exhaust available if anyone is interested...it is off my L99...2SS/RS. I upgraded to the Borla S Catback recently so the GMPP axle back is just collecting dust in my garage. Willing to sell cheap!!! PM an offer! You pay shipping costs and you will also need to purchase the two clamps to mount them from a parts store.

Does the Borla s axle back do the same as the GMPP when the AFM kicks in? Too much Drone?

Yes it will........ check out Solo axle back with a "J" pipe made for the L99 if you want more sound out of an axle back without the AFM drone. The "J" pipe is a Helmholz pipe to cancel out the resonating (drone) frequency.

I've got the GM Exhaust and it drives me crazy too when the AFM cuts in. I'm taking the car in for service tomorrow and was thinking of asking my dealer to turn it off for me. Don't know if he will, but if he does, will it void my warranty? I guess he would tell me if it would. Has anyone had their dealer turn off the AFM?

I don't think I've heard of any dealer yet that will tune it off, and I've searched the forums and internet ALOT..... if you do it yourself GM could void some of your warranty. Best advice I can give you is either stick with stock, get an axle back like Solo with "J" pipe, or tune it and get rid of the AFM and roll the dice with your warranty (then get whatever exhaust you like the sound of). Any modifications to the L99 will amplify the AFM as far as I have found. The only chance might be the Solo but I am still speculating on that. Corsa has a cat back made for the L99 but it replaces the stock resonator and stock mufflers that already have a Helmholz "J" pipe, with just a Corsa resonator and no "J" pipe in the muffler..... so my guess would be that the Corsa would still still make the AFM 4 cyl sound amplified.

Here's a very important question.... do you plan on any future mods to your car? The best HP gain (and sound improvement) for the dollar is long tube headers, CAI, and a tune. If this might even be a consideration in the future, save your money and get it all done at the same time (this should include a tune). Quite a few people have done headers and left the stock exhaust behind the headers and the sound is awesome..... sorry to ramble but I took the same path as you are considering and probably pulled out the sawzall on my stock mufflers too soon. Good luck and keep asking questions and using the "search" option on these forums.

So from what I'm hearing, the L99 automatics are best left with the factory exhaust on?

No, there are plenty of exhausts that do not drone with an L99. Corsa Sport is one. Here is one we use on our L99.

Set the cruise at 72-75 on the highway without the stock resonator and stock mufflers.... and there will be no noticable drone change from the stock set up when AFM hits 4 cyl mode ? Got any video with good sound to prove this??

Besides the Solo setup I already mentioned..... thanks chevyb.... the only way to hide the AFM is with a Helmholz design (Solo and Stock).... which is what the stock mufflers have.

I have a question, I'm fixing to install slp ceramic coated long tube headers, slp 'x' pipe set up and I had planned on using the gmpp axle back mufflers. I'm now worried about the drown. I'm also planning on installing the TVA 2300 magnason supercharger. I was planning on doing all this at the same time and having both the motor and trans tuned and dyno tested all by the same shop. What options will I have if I do have the drown? And should I just sell the gmpp exhaust and just get the matched slp mufflers? (loudmouth1 or loudmouth2)? Has anyone done a similar set up and if so were you happy with the results? By the way, I also have an L99 automatic.
