Wifi Interference - blips in BT audio and wireless carplay audio
I'm wondering if anyone has run into this and found a solution. I'm not quite to 200 miles on my Camaro but have noticed frequent blips or pauses in my audio and often this coincides with a message on the infotainment system of wifi interference. I live in a rural setting and it seems to happen when driving through town, when passing farm sites, etc. quite frequently.
I've never had this type of issue with streaming audio before (Spotify) in my area or when traveling. However, this is my first vehicle with a WIFI hotspot builtin and with Wireless Carplay. While driving today, I opened the menu and looked at Wifi related options and noticed that available wireless networks would come and go as I'm driving. So the car is actively searching/detecting Wifi sources surrounding the car. I do have the car connected to my home Wifi (so I could check for updates) but have never connected it to any other network. My thought was to look for a setting something akin to "allow device to search for Wifi" or "allow device to auto-connect to wifi" but didn't see any settings that seemed appropriate. Has anyone seen this and/or have suggestions?

Why don't you turn off WiFi inside your car?
You can check for updates e.g. once a month and turn on WiFi at home. You could also turn off WiFi for testing in the first place. Drive to the same places and check if you still have issues. |

I experience this as well. Really annoying...

I tried the wifi for a couple months after I bought my car and wasn't impressed at all. It seems kind of redundant with the cell phone plans available these days too. Maybe it makes sense for people with kids, but I don't see it making sense for a Camaro that is pretty much just me and my wife with good phone plans.

I do not have the Wifi Hotspot active in my car. I have no need for it. I did not see any setting to completely disable Wifi in the car. I could tell it to disconnect from my home Wifi, but that wouldn't (shouldn't) have any effect as the issue I have is when I'm driving far from my home wifi's range.

I could maybe see it in a mini-van, if you had kids with wifi-only tablets or something... but then I'd probably just turn on my phone's hotspot.

Try to delete the WiFi from your Camaro and testdrive around the spots where you have issues.
Another idea is to try a different phone/SIM card. Or try any offline player or the YT music app and check if it is not even Spotify related... |

A further update on this. As the weather improves I've now had the opportunity to more miles on my car, including some longer drives. It appears that the Wifi interuption issue is most common/frequently in the first 10-minutes or so. I had a couple of 90-minute drives this weekend, and after the first little bit I did not experience any issues.
I also had an IOS update to 15.4 that I applied so there may have been a partial IOS fix as well...

I've had this happen a few times on a small stretch of highway near my home. The music will go in and out like it's a bad connection. I stream over cellular thru Apple CarPlay. It's not a signal strength issue, so I'm guessing my phone is attempting to connect to a wi-fi signal along that stretch of road.
In a related quirky deal today, my display freaked out a couple times as I was driving around town. The dash went dark and reset itself a couple times, and the HUD stopped working. Drove it home and parked it. Restarted and the issue appears to have gone away. Anyone ever have this happen?

I am definitely noticing the wifi interference mostly around my house as well, say within 5 miles or so. I'm starting to think the car continues to search for the wifi signal (my home wifi for updates) for a specified period of time and then stops. Not sure if that is a 10-minute timeframe or just perception. Spring has been slow to arrive in MN so I'm still getting just sporadic opportunities to get the car out. Once I can narrow in on the pattern, my next step is going to be to delete/forget my home wifi and then see if the problem still persists. If forgetting my home wifi completely gets rid of the problem, then I'll just periodically connect, check for updates, and then forget the network so I get flawless streaming. I just want to try to identify the pattern, distance, time from startup that the interference occurs first before doing that.

I thought I'd post another update on this in case anyone is interested. I've played around with enabling/disabling different settings on my phone (Ask to Join Networks, Auto-Join Hotspot) and anything that seemed even remotely related in the Infotainment system (auto-download updates, etc.). Nothing seems to make any difference. Problem remains and is particularly frustrating on short trips as the wifi interference issue seems to decrease/disappear after the first 5-10 minutes of driving.
What I've taken to doing is disabling CarPlay from the Infotainment menu. This puts me back to streaming over BT for my 10-minute commute to work. On longer trips, where I want CarPlay for navigation, for text message dictation, etc. its pretty quick and easy to re-enable (or I can use a cord for really long trips when I want to keep the battery of my phone charged).
