problems w MRR wheels, lugs falling off

I purchased a set of reproduction 1LE wheels from MRR, to use with my new G3Rbtires
Everything looked fine, fitment was perfect. So I TQ lug nuts to 140lbs went out on the track and something did not feel right after 4-5 laps and I heard a noise, when Braking

So I came in to the pits and the front lug nuts were about to fall off. I tightened them again and went out for few laps, and they did the same thing, not as bad because I only did a few laps

Thank god I took my front set is G3’s on stock rims, with me, I put them on and had no problems, except bad understeer, due to the stickyness of the rear tires, the fronts could not keep up with the back grip

I had to fly back to NY, so I did not have time to investigate what the problem was. The backs, never came loose, the entire time, same MRR wheels as the front

Anyone have this problem, and what was the solution

Thx

The lug nuts have the proper seat for the wheels?

Identical lug nuts and you narrowed it down to the wheel? hows that wheel compare to the OE in that way?

Bizarre! I have MRR 19s for winter tires, so never tracked them but they seem to stay on my car with no issues.

Do MRR wheels have the camaro specific hub size? If not, are you using a spacer to fill the gap an ensure it’s seated properly?

I used stock lugs, after I inspected lugs, to seat, they might not be going down as far as with the stock wheels

I did not have time to investigate because I flew home to NY

I figured they would just fit because they were exact reproductions

I drove 2-1/2 hrs to Sebring with no problem, but I guess the g- forces from turning, loosened the lugs
Like I said the rears were fine, had zero problems

I’m wondering if they were made for non 1le camaro’s
I’m pretty sure they do not have the beefy studs we have

I’m going to call MRR see what they say
Maybe I need special lugs

I’ll have to figure it out when I go back to Florida

Thx for your input

Are the MMR painted / coated in the seat area on yours? Buddy custom powder coated his wheels (stock not MMR). Coating place didn't mask off the cone seats. First hot track session, big vibrations. Wire brushed off the paint in the cone areas of the wheels and no more loose lug nuts.

Regular SS have the same studs, you need aftermarket longer lugs than what you had stock. yes theyre replicas but its not exactly the same, your factory lugs are bottoming out on the studs, while just close enough to seem like the wheels tight, then with vibration they back off. its safe to assume every time you go to aftermarket wheels you need new lugs.

source I used to work in a wheel and tire shop, you sold lugs every single time you sold wheels, myself and other salesman often forgot, and we'd have to tell the customer after and they wouldn't be so happy hearing its $80 or so more than they thought.

Also I just got rid of my 2020 1SS with MRR's and run them on my 2SS 1LE with the aftermarket lugs no problem

I thought you needed different lugs with the MRR wheels. I bought my MRR wheels from a member here and he provided a set of lugs with the wheels. If I recall correctly he said the diameter of the stock lugs was too large. I did not even try using my stock lugs. The ones I have do not have a hex head, they have a star type pattern that came with a special socket.

MRR still uses conical/tapered lug seats, but as mentioned above the bore of MRR wheels is too small for the OEM lug nuts so they won't seat correctly. I specifically got these [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SF8FA7C] because they're forged, but any 14x1.5 thread lug nut with a tapered mount will technically fit. Just avoid the aluminum ones, especially if you're tracking on them.

Therein lies your problem, as others said above, MRR requires different lug nuts for optimal seating. I bought the black factory style, closed end Gorilla ones (96643BDX), no issues so far.

I have MRR 755 (ZR1 replica) and the dealer said the stock nuts would not work. I bought the MRR black splined nuts and have had no issues.

[Edit - sorry for not reading the replies, sounds like we are all saying the same thing. ]
