Satisfied with non Bose system?

I'm thinking about ordering a new 6th gen while I can, but can't decide on the LT1 or a 1SS. The only thing I really like about the LT1 over the 1SS is the Technology Package with the Bose system. I am not an audiophile but I do like a decent sounding stereo. My 2012 1SS just had the base radio, and I got used to it for the most part.

So wondering if the base unit in the 6th gens might be an improvement over the 5th gen's, and if those with it are satisfied. I haven't yet gone to the dealer to really check out the Camaro up close, so no chance to compare the 2 systems in person. Probably doubtful any dealer would have Camaros in stock to compare them anyway...

Which would you prefer, LT1 with the Tech Package, or 1SS with most of it's standard features only?

Given the destiny of the Camaro, in your shoes I would order a ZL1 while I can (and I say that as a happy 2SS owner).

If that is not an option and neither is a 2SS, then it's a pretty close call between the LT1+tech package and a 1SS... the LT1 is somewhat cheaper and lighter.

The real base radio is what comes in the SS 1LE: powered by the little amp chip in the radio unit behind the dash to the right of the glovebox. I think the non-Bose system in the 1SS (non-1LE) still has an amp in the trunk, right? If I were you, I'd do what I could to listen to that system and the Bose system. I don't think anyone can really answer your original question for you, because everybody's idea of "sounds good" is different. Most stock Bose setups don't sound good to me. I guess I probably am an "audiophile" based on what I have in my house, but I really want accurate reproduction as much as possible and Bose doesn't provide that. Neither does the 1SS system, of course, but it's easier to get an interface for that system and install good aftermarket speakers and amps/DSP from there than it is with the Bose system. So unless the Bose system really does satisfy you (which is fine - if you like it that's all that matters) then you might as well skip it and put the money aside for aftermarket upgrades.

Building both models on Chevy's site as I would probably like to have them optioned, there's only about a $1,255 difference, with the 1SS being the more expensive, of course.

My '96 Z28 had the Bose system, and I thought it really sounded nice. On my 5th gen, I did compare my base stereo to the optional Boston Acoustic that was offered at the time, and I honestly couldn't tell much of any difference. I think Bose makes a better system than BA, though. I'm not big on going aftermarket, prefer keeping things original. But as mentioned, best case would be to try and hear both systems.

I don’t think the rear has enough sound. But the system overall sounds ok, but I got spoiled from the Meridian sound system in our Range Rover, hands down the best sounding stock system I’ve ever heard.

I've had three Chevy's with OEM Bose systems, 2005 2500HD, 2019 Equinox (still have) and now the 2022 Camaro 1LT.

Sound quality wise the truck was the best of the three and it's not really close. I don't know if it was just the larger cabin volume or room for larger speakers or both but that was a nice sounding system.

The Equinox just isn't as good, won't tolerate a lot of volume with any significant amount of bass, but it does have good surround quality.

The Camaro is about the same as the Equinox except the surround quality. Doesn't really matter what you do with the fade control, the sound is all up front.

The base system sucks. The Bose is some what better. You can upgrade the base system and get better performance out of it cheaper than ordering the Bose system. The lower end system in my jeep suv is better than the Bose in my 2018 pick up and way better than my camaro was stock

I would be replacing either system - good sound is a priority as you get older and become less relevant.

ZL1 vert stereo upgrade
