16-21 Rear Duct Install

After reading through this thread a while back I decided to undertake the project and see how it goes. I ordered the "Front" but actually rear deflector kit PN:84946138 which includes all the hardware spacers etc. For all those before the 22MY and reluctant to drill into the arm I got a set of the rear FE4 arms from the 22+ Camaro's with the PN:85004630 shown in post #40 of the thread. The bolts are TTY so I replaced those as well, install wasn't hard but one snag was my ratchet & socket didn't fit on the knuckle nut facing the lower control arm so a wrench took its place. I used a single jack which was fine other than aligning the arm during reinstall. I placed the knuckle bolt and nut on first, I then used a larger diameter screw driver to pull the arm into place as only half of the arms hole was aligned without help.

After that easy sailing torqueing everything to spec then putting on the deflectors. I did this without calipers installed as they are off getting powder coated but it didn't seem like it would have hindered any progress. The results are below they easily clear the stock 20in ZL1 rims I can't speak for any other sizes at this time but they fit like a glove in my case.

Are the new lower arms different in any other way than just the holes? I think I may want to drill the existing arms as long as the new ones don't have any additional reinforcement.

They are the same exact arm just the 22MY version that includes the holes. I went this route as they are cheap and easy to replace but I'm sure you could drill their mounting holes without an issue. The deflector kit uses a nut and bolt as the arms aren't threaded so it should be fairly easy to DIY. You would just need the proper measurements to place the holes.

I finally added the rear ducts also. I ended up drilling holes in the existing lower trailing arm and cutting off a small piece of the backing plate.

Is this accurate?

Is cutting off the part of the backing plate due to the duct hitting during install or just for more airflow?

More airflow. A good portion of the air directed by the duct hits the backside of the backing plate. Keep in mind that the stock SS 1LE rear rotor has the vent inlet facing the outside so the air won't be drawn though the rotor.

To get any real benefit, you'll need to install a set of rotors that have the vent inlets facing inward like the GiroDisc.

It's not just the brakes. Keeping the hubs (bearings) cooler is a good thing.

Has anyone tried to install CT4/5V brakes on a LT1 Camaro?
That configuration could solve the issue with the electric parking brake and 4 piston calipers. Needs more research though
