Lower light in Headlight

Hello,

I've got a 2018 ZL1 1LE and the light below the main headlight stopped working. I've drawn around it in yellow in the attached photo.

I think this is considered the DRL (Daytime Running Light) on the ZL1 1LE but I'm not sure. I know other model cars have a light below this too.

It would seem that it's part of the headlight assembly which is horribly expensive so I want to make sure I check all the simple stuff first. Does anyone know if this light has a corresponding fuse? I checked F31 and F36, they don't affect it. I pulled F32 and F36 to see if I could make it stop working on the drivers side but while I can make the main headlight stop by pulling those, I can't seem to find the one which controls this lower light.

I'd like to check find the fuse that controls it and, if the it really is the light and not just a fuse, I wonder if a possible "fix" is to just disable the driver side too so at least the car won't look funky. It's 90% track car so I have no real issue flipping on the main headlights all the time, it just looks funky with it sort of winking at you.

Hope it's an easy fix because if not, it's major surgery...

Thanks for any input you folks have.

As per the service manual, its fuse is F18 (body control module 4, see below), I'd check that first. Hope it was just a fuse and not the headlight assembly itself, because that's pretty expensive indeed.

IIRC, the headlight assembly has a ballast for the HID light and then there’s another module plugged into the DRL board, maybe try replacing that

#10 on first diagram

You guys are always so spot on! F18 and F28 do seem to control them. However, it didn't help me. I swapped them and had no change. The drivers side continued to work and the passenger side did not. I've not checked out that "module" yet, though I may want to do that before going down the road of new headlight.

What about pulling F18 and F28 - do you guys think there would be any negative to doing that? Or would it just simply disable the DRL on both sides?

Odd "fix" but it may be just what I need. Please let me know and thanks for the excellent posts so far guys!

Thank you,

I'm afraid that's a no go, because you'll lose the stationary taillight (the two L shaped segments) on that side and, if your pull F18, the license plate lights as well.

Following up on Bumbleboy92's suggestion, I strongly suspect it's either that module or the ballast for the LED DRL strip built into the headlight, components #9 and #10 on that diagram. Both are easy to replace, the ballast is bolted to the back of the headlight assembly, and the module is seated somewhere underneath, I'm not sure exactly where, since my car is an SS.

Just exchange the module from left to right and you will know if the module is the issue.
As well try to measure the output from PIN 8 if there is power .. as this would be the power for this DRL.

The LED and HID ballast on these cars are known to fail randomly and very early often with zero warning. That is more than likely your culprit in this case!
