Having experience in the automotive world, this chip problem is a logistical nightmare. On paper it sounds like cake; get chips, find cars, install chips, process vehicles. I can tell you that it's almost never that simple.

It's because the logistics out of LGR are terrible. Really, just GM logistics in general right now. It has never been uncommon to see next model year cars arrive before or at the same time as the last current model year cars to come off of the line.

With Camaros, you have cars like 1LEs or cars with stripes that have to go to the upfitter before being shipped and some of the cars that don't need that will ship before them. I remember having 2020 and 2021 Camaros arrive on the same transport last year.

This right here. I also work in the industry in the Detroit area and it is a massively complex issue and operation.

The company I work for ships parts into almost every GM facility in North America. I cant imagine being at the OEM right now trying to deal with this hand to mouth situation and scheduling suppliers and parts to make JIT manufacturing work.

I would say that with customers patiently waiting for their ordered cars, the "on paper" scenario involving these chips is exactly how it should be done.

They aren't waiting for some custom miscellaneous ordered item for completion, it's a chip that every car made needs to have.

It's first come, first served. Nobody really cares about how the sausage is made, but no chip available as the excuse for someone's car not being delivered makes seeing others show up seem pretty hen-house...

I got mine on Tuesday but I live in Lansing and the dealer picked it up from the plant so I didn’t have shipping delays.

Precisely. You understand exactly what I'm getting at.

I don't disagree with your sentiment. I think the top brass believes they can both balance production along with addressing the constantly multiplying cars being stored for microchips. I've listened to several first hand accounts on how this is going.

There are several hurdles along with completing a car awaiting microchips. You get chips to complete a list of vehicles. You set off to look specific vehicles - you find the vehicles are not where they are supposed to be. Whether its not in the right spot, or even in the correct lot. You do find the correct vehicle, and find the battery is dead. You carry a charge box or wait for a tow truck to come jump the vehicle. If you manage to complete vehicles, then it's up to logistics to dig cars out of the the lot to get it moving along. Depending on the circumstances, and one person may only get to complete 2 or 3 vehicles per day.

It's a mess around here, or around any plant storing vehicles due to the chip shortage.

Thanks for the insight. Are you saying that they would install an ECM chip right there in the lot where it's been sitting?

Not to throw salt on your burn, but my dealer just texted me an updated invoice and my car is at 4150 waiting for shipping now. They expect to have it this month

I can tell ya from my work in purchasing and acquisitions that the user and consumer level people all think it's Amazon Prime simplicity, Swipe, delivered the next day and it's so not like that on the corporate level. Logistics of that magnitude are a nightmare. If I could have a corporate card with Amazon Prime and make my buy's that way...happy dayz

If you go to the Chevy Builder site I found 40+ 22 ZL1 listed on be available. So yes they are shipping the 22 out in force before all of the 21s have chips. Even found a Rapid Blue in transit

It is what it is to me at this point. The dealer seems confident the car will be showing up soon, delivery ETA is 9/18, but I am not holding my breath. I appreciate everyone's comments, just a frustrated moment waiting on a car for 7 months. In the end I want the car and the model year doesn't really matter to me as I am getting what I want.

I thought all 2021's that has not been delivered were rolling over to 2022?

I placed my order April 10th, and the car is supposed to be at the dealer 9/27-9/28.
