What constitutes a "totaled zl1"?

Kind of a weird question I know but what determines if a car is totaled or not? Specifically a ZL1, i know these are performance cars and a lot of the parts and pieces cost quite a bit of coin but how much would you have to wreck for the insurance to claim it a total loss?

Any vehicle. Usually around 80% but have seen it at a lot lower then value. Myself I pay an extra $65 per month premium to have my car replaced brand new for a contract of 3 years. The fourth year is free.

As per google:

“Vehicle Write Off Value Calculation
If repair costs are close to the current market value (about 80% or higher) your insurer may still consider it a write off, even if it's less than the market value.”

yep, nothing to do with what the car is, its a percentage of repair. Extreme damage like broken frame / chassis would also count.
*even totaled cars can be repaired, depending on the state this can be issue with out of state salvage titles, NYS cost me quite a bit of money and officially didn't let me register a truck I bought from soldier that had a Oklahoma salvage title already issued.
The extra money $275 wasn't a big of a issue it was the two months they held it up.

When referencing “chassis” what do you mean by that?

I have seen everything from fender-benders totaling cars to insurance companies putting a truck cab on a new frame to not total it.

All depends.

I would think it would take a good bit amount of damage for a Zl1 to be totaled versus paying out a lot of $$ versus doing repairs.

Most companies 70% cost of repair = total loss.

Often the shops go back to the insurance co for additional money for hidden damage etc. Therefore the insurance co would rather write it off from the start rather than risk the probability of costs exceeding value as well as potential liability.

State Farm has a 75 percent damage to total a vehicle.

The comments about percentage of "cost of repair" are not really accurate. The value of the vehicle is first determined using the year, make, model, mileage and factory options (all collected from the VIN). Adjustments are then made for pre-existing damage prior to the incident, excessively worn parts (bald tires), and similar. Additional adjustments are made for after-market parts (if you have declared them on your policy) and brand new items (like tires). Once the final value of the car is determined, it is compared against estimated repair cost to bring it back to its pre-incident condition.

At that point, the specific insurance company will make a determination as to whether the repair cost exceeds a certain percentage of the calculated value of the car and make a decision. The exact percentage varies, but is somewhere generally in that 70-80% area. Your exact coverages can influence this amount based on what additional coverages you might have opted for.

If the insurance company decides to total it, review the documentation carefully to be certain that they didn't miss something important that could change the value of the car because that can impact not only whether they total it but also how much they offer (before deductibles) in payment if it IS totaled.

Repair costs on major damage are primarily "estimates". To fully repair the vehicle the cost may vastly exceed what is the initial high-cost estimate. It is the unknown that usually puts it into the totaled column. It's not worth the chance of it costing more than the car is worth to repair it. Calling it totaled is usually the most cost effective way for insurance co.s to save money.

Take the settlement and fix it yourself if you think they are wrong. Good luck.

Many times deployed airbags will be enough. But on a ZL1, maybe not.
