Automatic transmission V8 vs V6....
Hello
I have had camaro v8 for several months and I wonder if the gearbox is working properly. Feeling jerks especially when changing to a higher gear (mainly below 2000 rpm). Earlier I had camaro v6 and there the change was much smoother. Are the gearboxes the same? Or is this a normal symptom in V8? The car has driven 25,000 miles....Regards. |

Have you checked the tranny fluid level yet?

I've had my automatic V8 Camaro for many years and the only time it jerks is when I stab the throttle a little hard. I would check the transmission fluid like mikeman said as a starting point as this seems out of character for the transmission.

I agree, mine is smooth. Have you ever had a tranny tune? I was wondering if maybe something in the tune wasn’t quite right.

Thanks for the answers. Maybe I told it wrong. These are not jerks but clearly noticeable gear shifts (positive hit?). In V6 it was more delicate. I did not check the oil level because the gearbox is dry. The car is imported from the USA, maybe the previous owner did tuning the gearbox..but for sure did resonator and mufflers delete

Swap, sounds like maybe there's a tune in the car. That would explain some of the more jerky shifts. When I've had my car tuned I've had the tuners tune a "wife mode" which allows "D" mode to shift more smoothly and "M" mode to shift more firm/jerky. This allows my wife to still be ok with riding in the car with. However, not every tuner tunes this way and could be what is going on here.

Your in Poland and had a v-6 now a v-8 and it should be better with the 8 and its trans not the same yet your also dealing with AFM/dod and may be switching out of it also and would recommend a tune in the trans someday and deletion of the AFM/DOD.... things to think of if your wanting to long term own the vehicle, Displacement on Demand is worry some at best...and not exactly a popular way to save a couple MPG with the competition if you have not noted... Back in the old hot rodding days a good shift kitted trans automatic would hit the next gear hard, the Auto may be just wishing it was hitting it harder actually.

I have to drive to the tuner to turn off the AFM because it is annoying as there is no resonator and mufflers. I will check fluid level in the gearbox too because the temperature is always around 200-210* (fahrenheit). Thanks for advice...

You may be feeling AFM. Switch to paddle shifting and do a downshift. Now AFM is off. Do you still feel jerky behavior?
