Thinking of going back to a 5th Gen...
So I ordered a 2010 2SS in 2009 before they were available. Had that car for several years and loved it. Ended up selling it because I modded the hell out of it to the point it wasn’t a very good daily driver. I miss that car and regret selling it. I knew that car like the back of my hand! Long story short, I ended up buying a 2016 2SS in Sept of 2016. I like it! It’s definitely nice, and I can tell it has more power than my 2010 had. I just put Stainless Works Headers and full exhaust on it, along with a RF CAI. It’s not a race car, but it’s no slouch! It is my one and only daily driver, and it shows, as I have put 42k miles on the car already!
But I’ve always wanted something a little more “desirable” in the garage, something a little more “collectible” I guess. I ran across a really nice 2015 Z/28 with 15k miles for $41k. That seems like a pretty good deal considering those cars were selling for $75k from the dealerships! I’m not a road racer or drag racer at all, and I know that because of the CF brake system, this car is NOT a good candidate for a daily driver. But I guess this car just appeals to me because of the “427” and the desire to own an original Z/28! So I was thinking, sell the 2016 SS, buy the 2015 Z/28, and buy a “beater” truck or something for a daily driver back-n-forth to work everyday. Then have fun with the Z on the weekends! What do y’all think? Good plan? Stupid? Shut up and be happy with what I have? |

Blazzin, I would upgrade to a 6 gen ZL1 if you can afford it or a 1LE. I miss my old modded 2010 LS3 6 speed 2SS sometimes but wouldn’t go back to a 5th gen. The LS7 427 was a beast in a Z28 or ZO6 Corvette! My advice is to get the Camaro you really want!

Go fot it. A year ago I was looking at a 15 Z/28 but then it sold. It had like 1500 miles and asking was $44. After debating I went with a new 1LE since performance wise it was "better". If you are looking at collectability the Z/28 will be one down the line.

OP - we have a very similar journey. I bought a 2010 SS M6 and modded it to the point that by 2014 I went too far and just decided one day to sell it. Then March of 2016 I jumped back in the game with a new SS M6. I have left this one mechanically stock and still enjoy it every time i drive it. Im sticking with mine. Its superior to my gen 5 in every way. But i have to say a Z28 with that awesome engine would be very tempting. Good luck. I dont think you lose either way.

Nope, wasn’t that one! It was metallic gray, and looked all stock. The only thing I question is it has supposedly had 4 owners now, which seems a little suspicious!?!?!

Go for it. I bought a 1LE. It's not a daily, it sits in the garage through the winter. But I have a beater for a daily. If that's what you want and what appeals to you, then you already made your decision.

Go for it. The fact that you can't get a 5th gen out of your head speaks volumes. The 6th gen is nice but compared to a 5th gen....and a Z/28 at that it just doesnt have the appeal to you from what I read. Especially just a regular 6th gen SS. The 6th gen Zl1 is on another level...but run of the mill 6th gen SS vs 5th gen Z.....go with your heart....I mean the Z.

The Z with the 4 previous owners to me is a red flag.
The guy who mentioned his neighbour or friend, whatever, who said the Z was well taken care of.....that’s the one I would strive to get. Just my opinion. |

Well, if you look at performance the GEN6 SS tracks as good as the Z/28. Your also giving up ride, and a lot of options with the Z/28. Chevy had to give up a lot of sound proofing and options due to the over weight GEN5.. nice car but was on the heavy side. So it comes down to styling and what makes you happy.
Also while the production numbers are low I still think it will be some time before collectors status... good example look at the ZR1 from the 80s it still hasn't gained that much traction and had very low production numbers. Dealers around here couldn't give the z/28 away so it wasn't very big hit.. what I'm saying make sure your buying it for the right reasons.. It's what you want for a toy and it puts a smile on your face
