My luck blown motor??

On the back road and getting on it all of a sudden I hear a rattling sound and immediately pull over idle is fine I guess and can’t tell if the vehicle is knocking or ticking but idle oil pressure is very low maybe 15??? Which I know is not good. Having the car towed to the shop but I’m guessing maybe a cam bearing went out. Any guesses?

Does the pressure go up to 40-50psi when rpms come up? 15 at idle on a warmed engine isn't unheard of.

Yes when I drive it it does come back up to maybe 30-35 but I heard something let go or rattle in the engine just not sure tried to restart the car and it’s hesitating a lot no check engine light though

If it is ticking could be a lifter.

gonna try and see if I can link a video somehow but I started it back up and now the idle is normal and I can’t tell if there’s a ticking or knocking sound

Hard to diagnose something like that on the internet. A video would help. A rattle is not typically related to oil pressure unless something catastrophic happened then it's usually pretty easy to tell. Do you know for a fact you lost any oil pressure? What was it before?

Pop the valve covers off and check the rockers. I've had most of mine fail. If that's not it, you'll have to pull the heads to check lifters and if tats still not it you'll have to take the motor apart

My oil pressure is the same at idle when warm and goes to 30 off idle. It was like that from new. Hope its a simple fix.

Sounds like a broken valve spring and you're running on 7 cylinders. pull the plugs and do a compression test or pull the valve cover to inspect.

it happened to me and was the reason I did a cam upgrade while I was in there ya know. I did new lifters too, but they all seemed ok.

if that's the case, dont run the engine anymore incase the retainers pop out and the valve drops.
