DIY - stripes, lights, reflectors, tint, etc.
I've got my 2SS ordered. Build date is 2/13.
Rather than spend $695 to have red rally stripes done by the factory/dealership, I decided to buy the stripes and either install them myself or have them done. The shop that is going to do my window tint will put the stripes on for $200. I'm wondering if anyone here has done them themselves? I've put vinyl graphics on cars quite a bit. But, mostly 18" tall numbers and various other stickers for a racecar. These are much larger, and more involved. The instructions don't appear to be too difficult. However, the stripes are simply so large that I'm wary of trying to wrangle a 5' long stripe myself. Any thoughts? BTW, the details on this are: CAR - Mosaic black 2SS, 6-piston Brembos, black wheels, black bowties, red interior ADDITIONS - Red rally stripes - Ghosted (black) side marker lights (appears black) - 3rd brakelight blackout kit - GM dark finish taillights - Rear reflector blackout kit Basically, trying to go with a complete black car, with red accents. |

I did my own, custom, it took a while but satisfying. If they are pre-cut it should be easy.

Good to know. So, it wasn't hard wrangling that large 5' section? How'd you do it?
I'm guessing: - clean area with soap/water, then multiple passes with degreaser - place vinyl where you want it - mark that placement with masking tape - remove vinyl - remove backing paper and spray with soapy water - spray car with soapy water - place vinyl and begin light squeegee to get water out - once stuck down, do more heavy squeegee to get water out - remove top, protective layer of pre-mask - do final squeegee (with squeegee covered by thin towel) to get last water/air bubbles out Is that kinda close? |

-Clean and clay bar -Isopropyl alcohol -Since mine was custom I laid down the knifeless tape -Isopropyl alcohol -removed backing -put one side down and pulled taut -did my best to do a 4 corner pull (watched a few videos) -used heat as necessary to stretch and heal -pulled knifeless tape I know this isn't exactly what you were looking for. sorry.

It all depends what type of vinyl you have. Either wet or dry. If it's wet , the only thing I would add is when you're laying down those big pieces, A second set of hands really helps to initially position them. Then start squeegeeing

It's a wet vinyl. Directions are basically the above.
That 2nd set of hands is what I need - you're right. |
