Am I good to go?

Hey all. Just recently did my first oil change on my new lt1. Did not realize the manual called for dexos 2 approved 5w30. I used Mobil 1 5w30 full synthetic dexos 1. Am I good to run this oil or should I go with the Mobil esp 5w30? Thanks for any input guys

The manual calls for 0-40 mobile 1 esp dexos 2 and that info is on your twist off oil cap on the engine also. If that is not available 5-30 dexos1 full synthetic is OK.

Fine as long as you don't track or race the car.

That’s silly. When the 6th Gen was released 5w-30 was the factory fill oil and you could definitely track the car.

If you are going to use the car in colder temps I see you are in the northeast like me, 0-40 allows for quicker lubrication for the cold startups. Its a known fact that cold start ups and thicker oil = wear. Remember 0 weight flowability on start up any time is good and better when its 20, 30, 40 degrees.

Mobil 1 esp dexos 0-40 spec oil was specifically designed for the LT4 corvettes and the LT1 grand sport /Z51 corvettes for track use so they didnt have to change the oil to track them. I believe that carried over the the 1LE Camaros also, that is why it has been a factory fill now for at least 4 years on all the LT1s and LT4s in camaro and Corvette

The 5W-30 dexos1 is perfectly fine for use anywhere except the track (it basically says this in the manual) and was the factory fill and recommended oil even on the track for the first couple of model years.

GM upped the recommendations to the dexos2 oil a couple of years in, presumably to reduce their exposure from issues at the track.

I agree 5-30 dexos spec 100 % synthetic is fine for every day normal use. But if you run the car hard like street pulls, WOT redline shifts thru a few gears, 1/4 mile occasional drag races etc 0-40 mobil 1 esp is better protection.
