I wonder if the copper free pads offer less stopping performance so they used the 6 piston and larger rotors from the 5BW to help? Or it was the more cost effective to use the parts they had on the shelf?

They do, that's why the rotor and pad had to grow in size. At the very least, it's not going to be worse than the normal system. Keep in mind the brakes are coming off a car that weighs 300+lbs more than the Camaro, at least on the SS.

And if you change out the pads to copper versions, well now you plain have a big ass brake kit with no performance downsides.

Are these the same brake as the 1LE brakes? I would have preferred black calipers over my red calipers.
