Hood Wrap

Didn't look to see if this was posted before or not, but I was wondering why are some people removing the hood wrap on their cars? Is it a personal preference? Or something wrong with it or what? Because I was looking into wrapping my hood on my 2016 when I get it maybe a gloss black if it's possible.

I thought about doing it, but after some thought I decided to go against it. The black hood makes it look unique and is part of a very special package. One issue though is that rock chips will create white spots on your hood. But hey, it's protecting the hood pain so that's a plus. To each their own, there is nothing wrong with the hood.

I'm just gonna leave my appearance be (with the exception of maybe a wickerbill and an extended front splitter made specifically for a 1LE).

After 1.5 years and 16K miles, I have no problems with the wrap. I'm not sure how long it lasts but when the time comes, I'll probably have the hood painted matte black.

Would a wrap be cheaper than painting the hood? And is it possible to get a gloss black wrap? I'm guessing y'all have no problems with the wrap fading? What about those of y'all who pass their car through the car wash, no chipping or scratching?

I thought about it was well but as said above I like that the hood makes the car unique. It's the biggest identifier of a 1LE.

And I'm not sure how much truth there is to this but I have heard that the matte black wrap serves to reduce glare from the sun while road racing. If that's true then it's another plus.

Some aircraft use a dark patch and why do Pro sports players that play outdoors, put black stuff below the eye?

After 1.5 years, 16K miles, and quit a few cats have been on my hood, I had no scratches in my matte. This am it would appear, a Racoon jumped on my car and left scratches that you can see from a certain angle. Not sure if having a painted hood would have the same result, IDK! This is my first experience with a wrap, and I have to say that I am pleased at this point!

It's 3M 1080 Vinyl wrap. It can be had in a variety of colors with gloss, matte or pattern finishes like carbon fiber. I think you can get sections on EBay large enough to do a hood for $80 or so and give it a shot. I think most wrap shops start at about $300ish?
Check out: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...ns/Series1080/ for some info on the product. They recommend replacing it every 3 years or so because the adhesive starts sticking a little too well. Mine is showing some wear after two year - I will probably replace it in the spring to bring it back to like new.

I'm the original owner of my 2013 and I've had zero problems and even fewer thoughts of removing it.

Yes, the idea behind it is to reduce the chance of the driver getting glare flashed in the face while racing. As a person with Photophobia, light sensitivity, I greatly appreaciate it being there. Besides all that. It makes waxing the car so much quicker since the hardest panel to be happy with doesn't ever get waxed. BONUS!

That's the only reason the hood is matte black. To avoid glare.

If it's for the reduction of glare, why doesn't the Z/28 have it?
That's more of a track car than a 1LE.

About $80 in material and an hour or so putting it on. Gloss black is available. Go for it!

This would be my next question. I mean forget Camaros, the McLaren P1 or the LaFerrari, ect. don't have it either... Don't really see it in any race circuits like LeMans. It may be something that helps a LITTLE but isn't totally necessary I guess.
