My car with 315/35 in the rear. Speedo reads correct from what I can tell at 70. Not sure if my tuner adjusted anything or not though.

I bought a second set of wheels with 305s on the rear. Looked great on the car but I wasn't thrilled with the balance at the track. When I went to 285s in the rear I was much happier. My speed down certain straights were higher because the car accelerated better (shorter gearing, lighter tire) 305s look great but I'll stick with the 285s for the track.

NT05 DRs? Those look sweet! How do they hook from a dig in a straight line?

For the record, my opinion on the 305 is coming from a 275 and stock RS wheels. These ZL1 replicas made a huge difference in how my car feels on the road. But I also do not road race... or track the car. So my 305 feel is likely vastly different than a true 1LE with the full suspension and other kit.
Just my disclaimer. |

Also have a set of 305/35 MT Street Comp tires for trips or rainy days... I can roast those tires without trying lol. Amazing the difference rubber compound can make.

Staying on topic - if you want to try 305s, try 305s... if you don't track it and you like the looks better then no worries; if you do track it, see what it feels like and maybe it will work for you. If you don't like it you can sell'em (or burn'em down) and go back... it's only money!

Another thing, and this could flat out be conspiracy theory, but with the 305s, for some reason, my abs would kick in a LOT at tracks. Once I went to 285s, no more problem with that. I know the ZL1 uses the same setup so it shouldn't have an issue...but ABS was everywhere with 305s. I know it shouldn't make a difference, but it was solid pedal braking once I went to 285s. |

I skimmed the thread and will post on my personal experience/opinion on the street track with both the 285 and 305.
I installed 305s G2s on the back of my 1LE and tracked it after running the car on the 285s for a season. There was more push from the front and the car did not want to rotate as easily. (Since we all want qualifiers: Raced SSCA/NASA, instructing for 18+ years) On the Street: There is no better traction with a 305 G2 vs. a 285 G2. OD of the 305 is larger by 0.545" (27.85/28.40) so gearing/speedo are barely effected. There are much better tire compounds in all different sizes for "hooking" or racing than the G2 on the street. I had stock SS 275/40/20 Pirellis on the car for storage 2 years ago and they hooked better than the G2. As did the Hancock RS3 and BFG Rival. I did have a 325/30/19 Goodyear run flat from a Corvette Grand Sport on the car for about 2 weeks and it was actually worse than the G2 My point/opinion: Compound is more important than width on the street. Keep a square set-up on the track. If you want looks...it's your car, do what you want Matt

During development GM was using a different tire manufacture, but was having issues with the tires. Goodyear was involved with the development of 1LE and well aware of the tire and wheel sizes being used. If this was a safety or liability concern this would have been address immediately. They are not the "wrong size", but visually they may not be appealing to all....but they work.

Dropspeed ,thanks for you input. I don't know why others bought their 1LE's , but I bought mine for what it can do ,and the entertainment it can provide. The look of a tire on a rim is something I never even thought of . The 1LE performance package was the reason I bought mine .
