1LE Hood Care

Hi all... new to the forum and to the Camaro world. Loving my 1LE I picked up a couple weeks ago.

I'm wondering what everyone uses on their black hoods to keep it clean and looking nice. After washing mine multiple times I have streaks in the vinyl that look like water marks. Does anyone use a specific vinyl cleaner?

Thanks

Adam's SVRT is the best....hands down. Removes most of the spots and protects it as well...just went out and took 2 pictures...car hasn't been washed in 2 weeks and has seen some heavy rains.

Note: the SVRT gives the hood more of a satin appearance. But I prefer the satin "shine" to the dry vinyl appearance that looks terrible IMHO with all the water spots and marks.

Another option is the Chemical Guys Meticulous Matte Detailer.

I wash like normal, raise the hood to drain the water off and wipe it dry. Then spray and wipe it down.

If you wash it normal and dry it with a towel, it will look real nice.

If you have marks on it, oil or grease or something, then you should use the Adams VRT or something similar, it'll be shiny for a while but it wears off and the whole hood should be consistent. At least that worked for me when I had some fingerprints or something that I couldn't get off on there. Or just keep using the VRT if you like the look.

I use chemical guys as well. I don't need to use it every time. It lasts for a month with the car being garaged. I wipe down the car weekly and rarely need to soap up the car and wash. What I use is a spray-on detailing wash. Most are fine and used most off the self brands. Right now I did go to the local detailing shop and purchased a spray-on wash and has worked the best. Its pink in color brand name is 3-D.

As far as Plastidip on the vinyl hood that would be somewhat of concern. That is just me shooting from the hip. Think about its vinyl and now your putting on a plastic coating, its not like paint on metal which would peel with effort. Now with vinyl I would think its somewhat porous and would be very difficult to peel Plastidip off..

I might be wrong. I would go to the local vinyl sticker shop and ask or buy a small piece and stick it on some metal then apply the Plastidip and then peel off to see if it works or not.

Worst thing to do is spray it on and regret you did because of problems..

Just maybe someone has actually done this and will chime in

I use Meticulous Matte from Chemical guys as well. My Camaro is garaged so I just make it a point to use it after I wash the car and the hood is at room temp. I've never had any streaks at all and it's been nearly two years since I started using it.
