Went to the dealer today and finally got a copy of my workbench order. Mine does show R6P Early Order Activity. I was told early orders would be protected, but not sure if that was just to get me out of the dealership or not. Guess we'll see. I also supposedly had the Hurst Shifter still on my order, but I show as status 3400. Not really sure why, but I had them remove the shifter cause its still on hold. According to the letter on the first page we are supposed to be protected from any price increases. Just my opinion, but I think they are going to be at or above MSRP for a while. It's going to be a hot car and hopefully yhe economy will pick up and people will start buying. I can't wait and want to get mine now!

This is what i do not want to hear:
"We're sorry sir, the price went up while your car was in the production line. You now have to pay $xxxx.xx over what we agreed on".

Any thoughts? Dealers?
That is the reason you got it in writing, right?

If they don't honor it, take them to court!

Big problem with me is I ordered October 15th and they did not know squat about the car. I never got a price cause they said they did not have anything on it. Guess I might be screwed.

The memo on the first page was not meant for our eyes and I agree that we really have nothing to back us up.

Are there any official public communications from GM that we are protected? Does anyone know? Unless we have something like that we don't have much to stand on. The dealer can always say "what price protection?". "I never heard anything about price protection." and then you are kinda screwed. Plus my dumb ass already put 2K down!

It sounds like you and I assume many many others will be screwed over by your dealers with this price increase in one way or another.. And the attitude is pretty much "we can't do anything about it" if you ask GM to back you up..

Sold order price protection eligibility dates are dictated by the customer and dealer order dates as follows:

-Customer order date must be prior to the date of the price increase.

-GM systems order date (date dealer enters in GM system) must be no more than one work day after the date of the price increase.

These units will be invoiced at prices in effect at the date of production; however, the dealer open account will automatically be credited for the price increase once the unit has been delivered.

This pricing information is intended for use by authorized Chevrolet dealers and should not be disclosed to unauthorized persons. Chevrolet reserves the right to discontinue or change prices at any time, without written notice.

The revised pricing will be reflected in GM AutoBook which will be available on Thursday, April 9, 2009.
The memo was written to Chevy DEALERS. It says the DEALER'S INVOICE will be at current price levels but the dealer will get a credit for the price increase difference. This is to protect DEALERS margins, not customers.

Nothing was ever mentioned about MSRP or about customer sales agreements. The MSRP "might" be protected but I doubt that from what was written here. The MSRP on the sticker could still end up being the price in effect when the car is built.

Bottom line - If you negotiated an exact defined price in writing, you still have a deal and you are (always were) protected. The dealer will be billed the new higher invoice cost but he will still earn the same margin because of the credit he will get after the car is delivered. This is how HE is protected.

If you have "MSRP" on your deal agreement you might just have to pay more when the car comes in. In this scenario the dealer will get to pocket extra money when he gets the credit for the price increase. He did not pass it on to you.

I don't like it but thats how it reads to me. THIS MEMO WAS NOT INTENDED FOR US. If the customer MSRP was protected WE would be getting a memo!!! I didn't get that memo.

-Mark.

Thats why you get the little sheet that stated the msrp when it was at 34k with the destinaiton charge. So when they did this you have it in writing what you agreed upon the msrp was. No if ands or buts. If you dont like the price increase dont buy it and walk out with, hopefully your fully refundable deposit.

I think that some people's worries are that some of the dealers are saying "you are only price protected when the car goes into production" or something like that. but maybe, as someone else stated, they just want to pocket the money.

They sent an email a while back to all the people who signed up on the camaro site saying (paraphrasing) "Pre-order now to lock in introductory pricing". So yea, we did get a memo saying our pricing was protected.
