Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4ZP Question on Tire Wear
Bought these about a year ago. Performance wise I'm very happy with both wet and dry grip for an all season. Haven't had any snow to test them on. My question is about the road noise and tire feel when they get down to about 60% worn. My fronts are at about 5/32'nds and the rears about 4/32'nds.
I've noticed the past two months that the tires feel "grainy" and don't have much of smooth ride anymore. This is on dry pavement in normal driving conditions not aggressive driving. Mostly I noticed this at about 40-60 miles per hour. It almost feels as if the tires are a bit "squishy" similar to what winter snow tires feel like on dry pavement at higher temps outside (30-40+ degrees). The grip and performance seems fine in both normal and aggressive driving so no drop off there it's just the grainy feel that has me stumped. Tread wear looks even on all four tires and I pay close attention to cold and hot tire tems so as not to overinflate them or under inflate them. Anyone else experiecne this "grainy" feeling from the tires when they are worn down. |

Just as a data point and not a full answer, I have "normal", non-runflat PS4S tires, and as the current set is getting longer in the tooth, its road noise has gradually increased a bit, and that is to be expected. No squishy or grainy feeling on the usual roads, however, so I'm not sure if what you're experiencing is normal with the runflat variant.
