New 2LT V6 owner with OEM 20" x 8.5" wheels - looking at wider wheel and tire options

I've done a bunch of searching but can't really find what I'm looking for. I do not like the stock look very much....Wheels/tires are too tucked-in for me and the 245 series tires look too skinny. What I want is a 20" wheel, maybe 9.5" wide that will fit pretty flush with the lip of the fender. (less offset?) Maybe running 275's all around so I can rotate. This is mostly for looks and maybe a bit more grip. I don't want to add unnecessary weight as I don't have 450+ HP. My driving is mostly windy country roads.

Any suggestions? I like this style wheel and won't spend $600+ each....
  • Offset: 35mm, 1.37 Inch
  • Backspacing: 6.63 Inch, 168.4mm

1Le style:

  • Offset: 23mm, 0.90 Inch
  • Backspacing: 6.4 Inch, 162mm

I'm envious of your plan to get new wheels/tires, not because of the wheels (I love my wheels), but because you get to enjoy new tires that are NOT run-flats!

With a 2LT that isn't raced or tracked, I would go with 19" wheels and a little more sidewall for even better ride quality. My personal opinion on these wheels is that the ZL1 1LE style is great, only bested by the SS 1LE style, but if I had your car, I would give the MRR FS06 a try (see here).

In terms of sizing, you can go wider, keep the square setup and remain at 99.9% the same height with 275/40/19 tires, to save costs as you also mentioned. That is what I would give a try.

The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is a very quiet tire for those windy roads, probably the best summer street tire being made these days. The Continental ExtremeSport Contact 02 is in the same ballpark.

Thanks for the info. I will look into that. 👍

I just wish I understood better the science of backspacing and offset on let’s say a 9.5” wheel so it is flush with the fender and not tucked in. Still digging.

Try playing with this: https://www.wheel-size.com/calc/?whe...cl=50mm&sr=0mm

I love that calculator, it's bad ass!

OP, nice user name. "Mid_Life_Crisis" I think that's why I ended up with this car

If I was you, I think I would just get some SS 9.5 wheels for the rear unless you wanna spend a lot more money. If you did, then I would consider MRR M017 wheels. I may even end up getting those someday.

Interesting. So I would just replace the rears with the SS wheels and have a staggered setup. 245/275. I’d have to verify the wheel style is a match though. And of course get new tires all around. Do I have this right?

Yes - That is exactly what I went with for my LT1 so now I'm running stock SS wheel and tire sizes.
For matching the current OEM front wheels I was able to get OEM 9.5" rears at a reasonable price from https://midwestwheelandtire.com/
note: search Camaro 2021 year that has the most wheels listed.
Although you also may be able to find someone selling their takeoffs on this forum.

I'm about to put up a 19x10 et27 square setup for sale, MRR FS02 in satin black. I ran 265/40/19 Pilot Alpin, you could go up to 285/35/19.

Stance is exactly the same as a SS 1LE as far as location of the outer edge of the wheels. Ideally you'd run a 7mm spacer up front (included) but you'd need 1/2" longer front wheel studs. You could run 5mm w/o longer studs and be 2mm further in vs SS 1LE fronts.

https://www.mrrwheels.com/blogs/news/fs02-wheels

Staggered SS fitment (either 1LE or not) would be an option but not rotatable which usually kills any tire warranty, being able to rotate is a plus.

Just looking around and came across these. Might be a nice square setup running 275 on all sides. Wondering how this +30mm offset would look.

I had a similar quandary when I bought my 22 LT1, as the factory configures those with 245s on 8.5 rims all around. I bought the matching 9.5 rims for the rear and put on 275s, for a staggered configuration. Performs a bit better, but the 6.2L tends to spin them almost as easily.

I created an issue when I bought very sticky tires, which I read about after I ordered them, that can't tolerate being stored in freezing temperatures. I'm in the north east, so I'm swapping the new rears for the originals every October., and back again in April or May. I could do without that twice a year swap!

If I were to do it again I'd buy tires that could tolerate freezing temperatures. If I wasn't trying to minimize cost, I'd go staggered with different wheels, using 10/11 rims with the factory offset.

I like your idea of trying to get a rotation friendly configuration, you could go with 4 front wheels on 275s. But visually, I think you'll want a larger tire than 275 on the rear.
