18 inch track rims and square tire setup
Hey all,
Wanted to get a few options about down sizing rim to 18inch for track and running a square tire setup for extended tire life on track. Planning on running 100TW tires. What setups do you guys run as 18 inch and if you guys are seeing any issues with square setup. Thanks all Last edited by that_zl1_1le; 12-30-2019 at 11:29 PM. |

You should include what kind of tires you plan to run: slicks, Hoosiers, or street tires in 60, 100 or 200 TW. I'd edit your original post to add that info.

I doubt you are going to find a better 100tw tire than your stock G3Rs. If that's your intention you are just wasting money. However 18s for slicks is worth it all day.

I am not entirely sure this car would benefit from a true square set up. You would have to run a huge spacer up front to get a wheel to clear that would be remotely similar in size to the rear.
After spending lots of time going through different wheels and tires, I have settled on the stock G3R's as the best all around track day tire. With that said, I have had stellar results with my current Nankangs in 315/30/18 on 18x11/18x12 wheels. No lap time comparisons, but the car feels good on them.

I have experienced some weird issues, but I can't pin point them to the wheels. Last event, with TC fully off, the car seemed to be fine. I had to run it completely off, though, or else the TC would engage far too often.

With a square setup the car sees a constant 1.8% rear wheel slip. It stands to reason that it would engage Stabilitrack/TC earlier and more often as a result.

If your priority is fun AND longevity then consider G3s as they now come in stock ZL1 1LE sizes. This is an SS 1LE and regular ZL1 tire and it is very close, if not equal to some 100 tread rated tires. The price point is hard to beat and longevity is decent at 6-7+ days. IMO these are the best bang for the money, bar none (i have also tried Cup2s and RE71Rs). Other than that, there are no miracles and speed costs |
