GM investing big money in Corvette factory. Looks like a mid engine Corvette may actually be coming in a few years. Hopefully with an option for a proper DCT like Ford is using in the new GT.

Interesting factoid in the article about Corvette being continuously produced the longest. Mustang must be second.

The Corvette very nearly lost that crown to the Mustang in 1983. Some people argue that the non-public sale of the 1983 Corvette should exclude it from the title of an unbroken lineage, even though 48(I think) 1983 Corvettes were produced.
In actuality...the Suburban has been in continuous production (as a nameplate) across several different platforms since 1933.

So I guess in terms of American cars..it would go

Suburban
Corvette
Mustang.

There was no "model year" 1983 Corvette, but production never stopped. That is why it is still the longest production American car. They made the 1982 a little longer, and the 1984 got an early start as a new generation.

A proper prototype or the hacked up car with bits of Opal and Holden stuff we saw about 2 years ago?

"Pricing will match the GT's $400,000 price tag"

AKA

We're pulling this out of our ass since the GT's price hasn't been announced. I cannot imagine a mid-engine Corvette topping $175,000 at the most, unless they're going for that exotic supercar field that the GT is going for.

The TTV6 and $400k price tag make no sense. The GT is a limited car built to get back into racing. I don't expect this car to be entirely carbon fiber and focused for a certain racing class.

Is there truth to the rumor that the C8 generation will offer both front & mid, then the C9 will only be mid?

I agree.

I could see them going DOHC maybe, with a DCT even, but not a TTV6 and such. It just seems like they're assuming that Corvette is going to follow Ford's lead with the new FGT and just chase it's heels around.

The original rumor was the midengined C8 ZR1 would launch first alongside the C7 Stingray/Grand Sport/Z06. Then those C7s would gradually be replaced by midengined C8s. That rumor's from upwards of 2 years ago though so it's likely to have changed.

Thats pretty much the reason why people want GM to do one. So that they can have a Chevy equivalent to the GT. Or maybe more accurately, so that they can say Chevy has one ... because they won't be able to buy it themselves.
