NPP vs Borla AxleBack S-Type Sound
Have a 2016 SS V8 with NPP...looking at possibly doing a Borla Axleback S type NPP system. Anyone that has made this same change, how much did overall sound level increase? Was there a noticeable difference in tone? Looking for a little louder and deeper tone than the stock NPP system has...

I test drove NPP SSs before I got my SS with non NPP and now have non NPP Borla type-S.
I think the sound of mine will sound the same as NPP version just valves are always open. I think the type S sounds amazing and better than the NPP from the factory. But it’s not a ton louder, maybe slightly. If I already had NPP, I doubt you’ll notice much of a difference.

Thinking a little differently here but I have noticed a definite difference in the sound of the stock NPP on my 2017 SS after I installed a Roto-Fab intake. It is the Roto-Fab version that deletes the sound tube and has the dry filter.
I can definitely notice that over all the exhaust is slightly louder in Tour, louder still in Sport, and a good bit louder in Track. Definitely, a more noticeable difference between the modes. |

I did the GMPP CAI/Cold Air Industries CAI - it definitely made both intake and exhaust slightly louder and slightly deeper. I did NOT have a soundtube from the factory, I do have NPP.

OP, check some fo the videos out on Youtube through either your sound system or good headphones. S-Type is supposed to be deeper and slightly louder.
I'm installing the Corsa NPP system on mine in about 2 weeks, it's deeper (not as deep as S-Type) but louder than NPP and S-Type.

I have listened to the Borla video with sound comparisons...even with good headphones, a recording of exhaust sound vs real life will def be different..99% of the time the NPP valves are open (running in track mode) but still would like the ability to close if i ever wanted to be quieter....

You're in cincy, you might be able to hear your desired at a cars/coffee or camaro meetup or even heading to Borla's shop in TN or a local exhaust shop.

I had the stock NPP and went with S-Type mufflers without the valves. I can honestly say that the tone is deeper, especially at idle, and it’s definitely louder than NPP with valves open. It’s perfect IMO! Also, the RotoFab does increase the sound level a little. I definitely notice the difference.

I just installed the borla S type axle back npp and have video of pre install and post. I will attempt to post the videos. It is much louder, not obnoxious, and deeper. If you are wanting a better sound while retaining the npp function, I highly recommend it. This is installed and the link above is factory.

Imo, the borla S type has the "classic" borla deep tone to it. It is alittle louder than stock, but for me, its the deeper tone it has as im not looking for something loud.

If you're looking for a little louder check out the Hendrick Hertz SS video in my signature below. They come with the GM Performance exhaust. It's a little louder and the tone is cleaned up on engine breaking. It's sounds better than what comes through in the video.
