Lap Timer Apps

Hey everyone!

Next month I am finally going to get the camaro on Road America and i am super excited.

I wanted to know if any of you have suggestions on a decent gps based lap timer. I know the aim solo II is good but i dont feel like spending that much for the one track day ill do a year.

I have an iphone so any apps you know of would be great.

I am currently looking at harry's lap timer.

Take care!

I use Track Addict from HP Tuners, it gets the job done, but I do have some issues with it missing start lines and running two laps as one. Though I suspect that has more to do with my setup of the start/stop line's precision.

Data and video playback is decent, and you can edit short segments (3 min max, I think) into video files for free. Further functions require purchasing the backend software for it.

I have Harry's and really like it, but I also have the Bluetooth OBDII connector and the external dual GPS sensor.

I've heard good things about Track Addict, but Harry's has worked well enough for me that I never have felt the need to try it.

It's not an app but I still use the older version of this G-Tech RR. It's pretty awesome, shows you split times and lets you compare your runs as you play them back.

I can only assume the new version is even better.

I've been running Harry's whenever I go out. Seems to be OK and pretty close to PDR times, only downside I've noticed is that it will typically miss a lap or two during a track day. I'm assuming this is due to the poor resolution of the phone GPS. Another friend of mine running Harry's has it linked to a GoPro for video that shows the data overlay, and the GPS speed and map are always off as well. Getting an external GPS would be best, but Harry's is still a decent and (relatively) cheap starting point.

with track addict do you have to use the video? Im just looking for a lap timer basically and will have the video from my gopro on my car.

so if you turn the app on but dont attach video and you go out on track will it still work as a lap timer?

It can accept external video (among other inputs) from a GoPro, but I'm not sure if it can be turned off entirely.

You can also just use the GPS data and ignore the video after the runs, and delete the video while leaving the data intact.
