Tune after 4.33 gears

A question for you tuners out there..

If a gear swap to a 4.33 rear end is done will a tune make a difference on a V8 maunal 2010 camaro? I know with any mod a tune is recommend with a bolt on or nessary with say a cam swap, but with new gears how important is a tune? Can a dyno graph be used to prove a tune will give better performance, or can you only see it in a quarter mile time slip??

don't see how a tune will do anything for you since you do your own shifting. I think a transmission tune would be necessary if you had an automatic.

I'm not sure if gears would affect the speedometer on the 2010 Camaro.

I think this is all you have to worry about

A performance tune is not needed for a rear end gear install, but you will need to have your speedo recalibrated. The gains made by gearing are purely mechanical and do not rely on anything done by the engine or tune. You will not see a change on the dyno with gears but you will see it in your quarter mile time and feel it in the seat of your pants.

You will need to get your speedo calibrated, and it will dyno a lower number but should improve your times on a na car..

In order for the speedo to work correctly, you have to change the values... and the only way to do that is with a new tune.

You CAN drive around with an incorrect speedo in a manual, if you would want

In an auto, the speedo will still be off and so will the shift points

Sir, can you explain why it will dyno a lower number? That's not clear to me. My car with 4.10s dynos at 435 hp/405 tq, what would the equivalent be with the stock 3.45 gears (M6 trans)

Thank you!

For what its worth, I took this from another forum. This is a quote by Power Ported Performance.

"Final drive ratio and gear ratios throughout the drivetrain affect power output (via efficiency if nothing else), as does the clamping force of a given clutch, the condition of the surface of the flywheel, the balance of the driveshaft, etc, etc."

"The stronger the gear set, the taller the resulting power curve (and the shorter the amount of time the drivetrain requires to reach operating peaks). However, all other things being equal (efficiency, quality of install, all the other variables), no particular gear ratio (in and of itself) will generate better horsepower or torque readings than another UNLESS the ratios are so high as to affect the operation of the engine, or so low as to prevent the engine from achieving maximum volumetric efficiency (this last might occur - the other would be very difficult to pull off)."
