Congratulations on the Crush Callaway ZL1! It’s a good buy if that’s what you wanted. If it was me I wouldn’t do any mods to it but it’s your car so do what you want. Enjoy the drive and new beast.

Unless you goal is to race the car, I’d leave it as is. The car will retain more value as a stock Callaway than it will if you start modifying it. There’s not a bunch of Callaway 6 gen ZL1s out there so it will be a rare car.

I had a Callaway SS SC630. The tune definitely sucked and the car wasn't as fast as it should have been. These guys are right I would watch the CSP video and consider a re-tune. They are good at honoring their warranty I will say, because they had to completely rebuild my engine. I don't think you will have any issues with the LT4 version, but Callaway should absolutely upgrade the fuel system on their LT1 cars and they clearly need to subcontract their tuning.

Edit: WTF is up with your hood insert?

I didn't know that Callaway used a blower of their own design. I wonder what the displacement is?

It's a 2300 with the Eaton rotor pack. Basically the same as the Maggie and Edelbrock with a different lid and a 3rd larger intercooler brick in the center.

From the reviews of owners of those blowers that use the canned tune, my experience, and the CSP video; I'd say that Callaway gets a canned tune from one of them as well.

Save your money to pay for parking violations in a Handicap spot without a sticker, unless you already have one.

Seems like a hell of a lot of extra effort on Callaway's part to develop new castings and misc bits and pieces just to add that third brick. At the power levels they're running, IAT's shouldn't be a problem with an off the shelf 2300 Maggie.

Haha I had a lot of heat related issues with mine on the road course. Limp mode from IAT/MAT multiple times, intercooler circuit puking fluid out the cap many times, engine coolant overheated one time and limp mode.

That is really surprising. I have beat the hell out of my car for 20+ minute sessions at several fast tracks in 90 degree heat with no overheating. I've followed your posts and it's clear that you're faster than me. I'm a relative newbie, but I'm consistently the fastest or 2nd fastest guy in the intermediate group. I'm not taking it easy on the car at all! Based on our collective experiences, it seems that the Callaway setup does not control IAT or coolant temps as well as an off the shelf blower.

Maybe you had air in the intercooler loop.

I bled that thing so many times with Callaway's procedure...

It still may have needed a proper vacuum bleed though.

I’m surprised to hear these things about Callaway. My buddy had a Callaway C6Z SC652 and it hauled. I rode in it a few times and it felt every bit of its claimed power. It was definitely quicker and more powerful than my old C6Z (stock).

It’s really an old theme.

One of their old vettes, circa 89-90, when it was new, blew up on a C&D writer doing a top speed pass. They blamed it on “Bad gas”. Yeah, OK, what ever you say, Pal.
