ZL1 convertible pricing

Very quick question on the reasonableness of cargurus denoting a MSRP 73k convertible with a potential great price guidance of 61.5K.

At this time there’s a few rebates out there that apply to me, the standard 1k rebate, conquest mustang and or nameplate 2k each. The listed deal price is 67k now, any thoughts on the Cargurus lowball #? Don’t need another car but have an itch...

Idk, I got destroyed on my buy, but that was back in August of last year. Very few allocations , all had mark ups back then. Best of luck

A car-gurus "great price" at $61.5 is BS on a new car. Used maybe. They only made 304 ZL1 verts in 2017, probably a lot less in 2018. So you're not going to find a lot of 'em out there new or used. Statistical models don't work well with very low volume, so you're seeing a 3rd standard deviation # that in reality doesn't exist.

A couple folks on this forum got fantastic deals like $8-10k off (right place right time) but based on forum posts I've seen most paid close to MSRP, a few above. I bought mine 55 weeks ago at what was probably peak availability when there were 7 red-hot new verts available nationally at the time out of what was ~33 red-hot-verts made total in 2017. I worked the dealer hard to get an OTD price at MSRP (~$5k off, paid for the tax). That deal included a $3k special offer.

Nobody has gotten $12k off that I have seen.

If I had to guess: I would put the std deviation for ZL1 verts new prices in 2017 at about $3k. Mean was about $1-2k below MSRP before tax. So 66% of cars sold were between $70-74k, about 30% of cars were above $74 and below $70. 3% of cars below $67 and above $77. At 304 units made, 3% is 10 cars. 0.3% of cars below $64 and above $80, or 1 car.

I bought mine in May. Obviously now we are further along into the model year.

There were two new convertibles available within a 50 miles radius when I bought one of them. They are not very common, even here in Florida.

I walked out with an OTD price (new tag included which is about $400, taxes, etc.) equals to the sticker price, which was about $72400; pretty fair I think. This is for an A10 with the fancy navigation package, whatever that is. These were the two options listed

That dealership never had a convertible on the lot since. They sold 3 or 4 Coupe ZL1 and one LE since then I think. The 2018 std. coupes are advertised at the moment at about $5k to $6k off MSRP. Back in may they were around $3k off MSRP. That gives you an idea.

They were willing to work with me because I came in with no trade-in and with my financing secured already. There was no haggling, in and out in a bit more than one hour. I did not buy any of the extras like warranty, road hazard, rim damage protection.... I also used the Hellcat angle as leverage. There were like 5 or 6 for sale at the local dealership at the same time. I knew how much folks paid for them OTD. Although I was not going that route, a bit of bluffing does help now and then.

I paid $3k under MSRP on my 2018 at Thanksgiving last year.

Looking at Cargurus all possible options nationwide, there are 119 new verts available, all 2018 MY. Median price is $70k. Lowest quartile is between $64-68k. All of this is "dealer price" which I presume includes $1-2k of unavailable stacked incentives.

There's plenty of inventory out there to use as leverage. So with some work $66-68k before TTT should be attainable.

This summer's market is a lot better for buyers than last year (~$5k).

worth a shot to call that dealership with the pricing something tells me they are stacking all of the rebates you could get and not what you would qualify for.

Thanks for the input everyone. I've previously bought from one of three chevy dealers advertising a ZL1. They're pretty straight shooters, but you have to work for the deal you get.

My point of view being in MA; Almost no one buys a convertible after July. You guys are absolutely right, there are very few ZL1's out there on the roads and the price point is pretty hefty for what most people consider a blue collar sports car. The 2019 model year will be available with changes/ upgrades soon (some may like and others may not).

I feel I have some decent leverage on the upfront price, but will more than likely take a trade beating on my 2012 Stang w/17K miles and my SS Vert with 7.8K miles (both mint)

If I attempt a deep dive this weekend, I'll follow up with results... or lack thereof.

I got mine for MSRP in June '17.
I had a few discounts that applied to me which knocked another $4.5k off the price. But who qualifies for what, is different for everyone so I don't factor that into price comparisons.
Based on everything I saw at the time, if you paid MSRP you got a good deal.

I paid $5k over MRSP. It's LA, another person was there asking about MY CAR. naww, phuck you buddy... umm, pull the car off the rack, let me take it for a test drive... it's mine.

they wanted $10k over, wasn't gonna do that, but I lost... actually, phuck that, I'm driving the car now, and haven't seen another vert ZL in LA before or since.. I won!

Here's a chart of current Cargurus "Dealer Price" data before TTT for 2018 ZL1 new verts as of today. So add in $1-2k for unobtainable stacked incentives and you're closer to realistic.
