That is really cheap...but who knows if it is the most current version (V8.6)...? From what I’ve read, earlier versions would set CELs. I have V8.6 and it is great.

I agree....it has to be with the 8.6 firmware version for the Gen6 Camaro or will cause cels (per Range). I want one but since I live in Calif, no one will ship to me. While doing research, I found that only the Range sold on Ebay by Summit shows this firmware. All the others on Ebay and Amazon only show the model number, not the firmware. So buyer beware, it may be the latest version or may not. If you get one without the correct firmware, Range will update for you but not for free (unless you buy from them or an authorized dealer).

That sucks. I wonder when that started? I live in California and bought a Range for my 5th gen directly from the manufacturer a couple years ago.

If you end up with one with the wrong version, you can send it in to Range for an upgrade. I think you only pay shipping (both ways).

Is there a device that does the opposite? instead of it forcing it to be V8 all the time its puts in in V4?

Range also makes one that is supposed to optimize the V4 mode better than standard from GM. Check their site. Range AFM Plus.

Many feel that going into V4/AFM mode contributes to the A8 torque converter issues, so your idea will likely not be popular on Camaro6...

I just got my car a couple weeks ago. Is this thing popular among the community? Does it really improve throttle response / power consistency? I personally haven't been able to tell when the car goes into V4 mode, power always there when I need it.

I actually noticed the improvement right away IMO. Much smoother since the car isn’t cutting in and out of V4 mode at light and/or part throttle. Can’t speak for others, but I did it mostly to help prevent issues with my A8...hopefully...

Other nice part is there is zero chance the dealer/GM knows, so no warranty issues (unlike a tune). Just remember to take it out of the ALDL port if you bring it in for work...!

The torque converter issues are unrelated to AFM, caused by:
TCC lockup pulsating while cruising (even in track/V8)
Unnecessary lockup in reverse
Unnecessary lockup at low speed, low throttle (parking lot driving)

The concept of AFM/DFM is sound, but the execution is too extreme. Slip tables and lockup pulsing should not have been added to the final solution just for an extra 0.2mpg highway. More trouble than they are worth.

GM should release a TCM update that drivers can "buy" (gets around EPA refile requirement) which knocks out the slip table, disables lockup pulsing, and keep the converter out of lockup in reverse and LSLT in 1st and 2nd gear. If they did that from a factory fresh transmission, the 8L90 would have a great reputation. I'm afraid to see what bastard moves they did to the 10L80 in the 2019 SS. The TCM behavior will not be the same as the ZL1, and that is a damn shame.

New here and new to the Camaro, is this AFM feature limited to auto transmissions only? I can't find any reference to it on my car, although I only have 1300 miles so far it hasn't done anything weird on the highway that I've noticed anyway. I have a manual transmission, thanks.

Have you guys with autos tried to put the car in a lower gear to avoid it going into v4 mode? On my silverado with the 6 speed auto you can put it in 5th gear and it wont run in v4 mode. It's much more responsive around town, you just have to remember to put it in drive when you get on the highway.
