ZL1 on E85

Looking for input from anyone who has converted their car to run E85. How complicated is it? How noticeable is the change? I'm in California and can't find anything over 91 and I'm wondering if this would make any sense.

Thanks for the advice.

I would talk to your local tuning shop. Accelerated Racing Solutions has done a great number of e85 Zl1 (909) 723-2721

I think the car already burns through the fuel pretty fast. Wont it be way worse on E85?

I wanted to do upper pulley, cai and e85 and my tuner said stock fuel system isn't good enough to support it, so I am adding meth.

You do not need to add meth. And the ZL1 has the LT4 fuel pump which is the upgraded pump. If you get the dsx flex fuel out, it comes with anti-corrosive material so E85 won't be a problem.

If everything on the car other than the Flex Fuel Setup is bone stock, you MAY be able to run 100% E85 but it would be pushing it. This would of course requiring tuning and loss of warranty. The fuel system is VERY limiting on these cars like previous LSA engines. You will probably need a low side and even injectors for full E and a fuel lobe upgrade will be necessary for much boost or aftermarket blowers. All in all, I think a Meth setup may be a simpler and more straightforward setup that most tuners can setup very effectively. E85 requires around 30%-40% more fuel. So your octane goes up and price per gallon goes down, but your consumption and fuel system needs go vastly up.

I get about 10-15mpg on E85 in my 14 ZL1 cruising ... car is about 800fwhp .... burns 1/2 tank at Laguna Seca in 20min.

~9gals for around 14laps at 2.25mi/lap

Approx 3-4mpg

The OEM ZL1 fuel system plus the sensor can only support enough volume for E60 or so.

Here are a few Combos..

Aux pump/low side, e85 flex kit, with headers, intake, and very small ratio or no pulley change should run e85 barely but still safe.

Running a bigger pulley with no cam fuel lobe will mean mixing e85 and 93 seems like a pain in the ass to me..

Locally a guy has headers and intake no pulley swap on e85 making 630 rwhp 652tq every car is different and dyno..

If you do the typical headers, intake, 15% lower or upper route going from stock 9.1 psi to 11.X -12 psi you should make 650 easy on 93.

Past that with a lower and upper spinning the blower hard you will need to add meth I haven't heard any 6 gen meth horror stories but I have 2 friends with 5 gens that will never use meth again both have had solenoids stick causing rebuilds..

If its a HP number your trying to reach with a budget.. The safest thing to do would be this..

Lower pulley / or upper or small combo of the 2
Headers $699 TSP -$ 1800 ARH
425 to 750 CAI (I think a cut stock box and Hi flow filter will make the same mine did)
499.99 Katech head porting
1200.00 to 1400.00 blower and snout porting
600.00 103mm TB
Aux pump/lift pump

I bet this will be 700 to the wheels on 93 with no meth.. vs overspinning and risking the motor on meth making the same..

I went full e85 on mine. Roto fab and Tony M tb. Car ran good. Made 612 on full E. Nothing else. I live in SoCal so I was having the same thoughts as you. I loved it. Any questions, ask!!!
