ZL1 & ZL1 1LE cars have exactly the same calipers and brake pads from the factory

That's amazing! I remember when I saw the price for the Brembo pads on my Evo, i was like That's pretty reasonable though

No doubt DTC 70/60 eat rotors like potato chips, and I can believe the seals could deteriorate quickly using these. I prefer the brake torque of the G-LOC pads as they are more confidence inspiring at 160mph compared to stockers. My calipers have thus far been flawless with 2K track miles at VIR. Personal preference prevails in this discussion.

I've used G-Loc and currently have a set of Hawk DTC70/60's. Sure, initial bite is much better but race pads destroyed my calipers. Caliper temps were nearly 200 degrees hotter with race pads. Melted all the piston seals and discolored the calipers. Stock pads don't get nearly that hot, so my calipers are holding strong.

I'm going to try to keep the stock pads in as long as I can, but I have no hesitation going back to race pads if need be. If I can say this humbly, I'm no slouch behind the wheel either. So these pads can't be that bad...
I consider you both right. Have used both the stock pads, which are very, very (did I say very? ) good....and the G-Loc pads from JP (at Stephen's recommendation) which I do believe have more bite and last longer. Ran both at RoadAmerica, Road Atlanta and recently ran just the G-Locs at Autobahn CC.

The G-Locs didn't appear to be harder on the rotors and calipers.....until Autobahn CC that is. It is a more technical track with lots of corners and you're on the brakes more often with fewer long straights to cool them off. Ended up with some heat checked rotors and the calipers got so hot the "1" on the rotors emblem is now a golden yellow vs. White. Wow they got hot..... The G-Locs can be harder on the rotors/calipers, perhaps impacted by track configuration.

My next event is three days at RoadAmerica so I'll be reloading with a fresh set of the G-Locs (for the end of those 150-160 mph long straights!) but when I go back to ABCC in August I'll probably use some OEM pads.

I think both personal preference and track configuration prevails. Both very good choices. These ZL1's have some great brakes!

Just my $0.02.

be careful swapping to OEM pads or vice versa once the brake pad material has been embedded into the rotor. Stick with like pads after tracking unless you are swapping to new rotors. I suppose a quick clean up with a scotchbrite and rotary device would help also. Chattering and inconsistent modulation can occur.

Agreed. Good reminder. I typically have good luck cleaning them up with 0000 steel wool.

This is especially important for G-Loc/Carbotechs compound. They can be an entirely different pad based on their initial bedding.

Thanks for this tip. I've built up a pretty good layer of stock pad material on my front rotors. You can tell a difference significantly after you get the transfer layer.

Stock pads are outstanding! Are we sure that the ones on GM Direct are the same that it came with as OEM. I know the part nos are the same, but I can't believe the pricing.
