Much less than going 9". I've had several ZL1 diffs (the 3.73 and the 3.23). Seemed quite a smooth transition from the stock SS and better than the Hammerhead I had (3.73). The 9" seems to eat up power by comparison. So, my said moral is that the ZL1 diff is a great (efficient) way to go.

reviving! I was in the market for a gear change and a local shop gave me a killer quote for a full swap to a ZL1 cradle, diff, axles, drives haft, complete rear brakes and hub for $2300 and change the front brakes to match for $1350 (all prices include parts and labor). I wasn't too sure because I know it will be much heavier than my existing but I also currently Ave 530 rwhp so wasn't sure if it would be better to go this route with the 3.7 gears in the zl1 with more weight or just go 3.91 with the Eaton, low, etc? any advice is highly appreciated, thank you!!

Based upon post on here, it depends on what you are doing with the car. Drag racing on prepped track with very sticky tires, might want to go with ZL1 diff. I don't think there has been much breakage at your power level in normal street use, especially if you have done suspension upgrades to eliminate wheel hop.

At 530whp, I don't think you need the ZL1, but those are some pretty good prices for installed upgrades. I don't think you could build a 10 bolt and put in aftermarket axles for that money, and the ZL1 is pretty hard to break. Several guys run 1000hp on them.

If you are worried about more weight in the rear, just add a blower up front to balance it out.
