Earlier in this thread I lamented not being able to reliably use 15 deg timing with 15 psi boost in my twin turbo L99 Camaro. On 93 octane it will randomly show knock retard even though I'm pumping the proper amount of methanol and I thought the methanol would allow me the timing latitude that E85 supports. So my question number 1 is whether or not that is true.
Now I have read that the LS3 style intake manifold will display uneven distribution when spraying meth and on the chance that this is what is causing my random knock I'd like to convert it to direct port style injection as a possible solution. So question number 2 is have you seen benefit from direct port injection as opposed to pre-throttle style on this intake ? It seems like an interesting project even if it only nets me 2 or 3 degrees. Many thanks for your insight of course. Great information. |

You would be much better off with E-85 then Methanol injection. I am not a fan of supplying an engine with fuel via a fertilizer pump. Ted.

The main reason I've avoided the E85 conversion is the serious loss of fuel mileage and the extra distance to the E85 pumps. I know I'd enjoy the performance though.
Thanks |

Add a flex fuel sensor and a boost controller. Turn the boost up when on E85 the turn it down when on pump gas, or have the flex fuel tune adjust your spark accordingly.

I've looked and searched, and asked, and asked at what temp should timing start to be pulled. Probably asked all the wrong folks but ended up "considering" anything under 200*F non-detrimental to making power with the fear of pre-ignition detonation or whatever the it's-bad phrase. What have you been told?

Anyway, if the port injection allows me some decent timing then I'll probably just "go with it" as they say. Thanks for your input. |

If I decide to go with the "E" conversion then no doubt I'll do it all. Who doesn't enjoy tuning an E85 conversion.

With the centri blowers I've run, I have never seen over 137 degrees on a 93 degree day doing back to back runs. Normally I'm well below 120. I'm not a tuner, just speaking from limited experience. Maybe Ted will elaborate.

Hey Ted,
I just picked up a used Huron TT kit from another user here, and I am planning on adding new FIC 1000cc injectors, a ZL1 FPCM, and possibly e85. I'm shooting for ~600whp, would those parts get me there? If not what would you recommend to get me to that power level. Thanks |
